If, by some weird quirk of fate, you missed the big news yesterday: Internet Explorer 9 RC is now available to download. If you've read our complete guide you'll know about one of IE9's neatest features: pinned websites.
In essence, it takes the Firefox and Chrome idea of pinned app tabs and goes a few steps further by actually integrating with the operating system. To pin a site, simply visit ...

Google's Priority Inbox feature is now supported in the Gmail Mobile web app. Priority Inbox automatically sorts your incoming email and pushes your most important messages to the top of the page, and it was previously only available to desktop users and those running the Gmail app for Android. Now, anyone with an HTML5-friendly mobile browser -- including Android 1.5+ or iOS 3.0+ users -- can ...

Firefox's official roadmap has been updated, and boy are there some interesting changes afoot. Most notably, Firefox 7 will ship in 2011. The second biggy, and the main focus of Firefox development in 2011, is to make sure there is no more than 50ms between any user interaction and feedback from the browser.
As far as feature sets go, this is what the roadmap looks like: Firefox 5 will absorb ...

Chromapaper is a new Chrome web app that makes it easy to save pages to the popular read-it-later service Instapaper. Until today, it was called "Instapaper for Chrome," but because it's the work of an independent developer, Instapaper forced a name change to make it clear that this web app is unofficial. The name Instachrome was already taken by a similar extension, so Chromapaper it is.

At the time of writing, the top paid app on the Chrome Web Store has 65 weekly installs. The top game fares a little better, with a few hundred weekly installs. After months of hype from Google and a delayed launch, those figures seem a little -- how can I say this -- weak?
The fact is, paid-for Web apps might be taking things just a little too far. If the Web has proven one thing, other than ...

exfm, previously known as ExtensionFM, is an extension for Google Chrome which allows you to build a library of all the music you discover while surfing the net. You can then listen to the songs you discover from within exfm itself (instead of re-visiting websites) and share your finds on social networks.
Version 2.0.4 of the extension has been made available in the Chrome Web Store, and this ...

At the end of October, Facebook acquired Drop.io and set about integrating the media sharing service into Facebook.com. At that time, they spelled out December 15th as the final shutdown date -- and while it's taken a few extra days, Drop.io has finally flatlined. Unsurprisingly, the company's less-talked-about Present.io screen sharing service has also been shuttered.
Both sites now display a ...

Google Wave may be dead as we once knew it, but it looks like Google may be intent on keeping its many Gadgets alive for the long haul. An experiment showed up today on Google Labs called Google Shared Spaces, but judging from what it's been through since it went up on Sunday morning, it may have been entirely accidental.
The idea behind Shared Spaces is a simple one; the old Gadgets ...

There's no shortage of people wondering if they'll soon be receiving one of Google's much-anticipated Cr-48 netbooks, so it's no surprise that something like this would pop up. The Cr-48 Shipping Tracker is a rather aptly-named and extremely spartan web app that does exactly what it sounds like -- it tracks the shipments of experimental Chrome OS laptops as they're shipped out.
Once you enter ...

AOL -- who happens to own Download Squad and Switched -- has been all over Google Chrome this year. They've already released a handful of extensions like Lifestream, SHOUTcast, and Offsite for Chrome and now they're offering up their first app in the Chrome Web Store.
Harkening back to days of yore, it's You've Got News. Unlike the New York Times app Seb showed you, You've Got News is a ...

Cortex is a must-have Chrome extension for anyone who shares links via social media. Instead of adding a button or right-click-activated contextual menu to your browser, Cortex pops up an innovative sharing circle when you hold down your mouse button. The circle looks cool, sure, but it's also a quick way to share stuff on Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr and Instapaper without even clicking. Just ...

To-do lists are pretty important for getting things done; and much like text editors, every person has their own favorite flavor, and it seems like every developer has a slightly different idea of what an ideal to-do manager would look like.
Todo.ly is one take on the do-do list manager. It also comes as a Chrome Web app, so if you use multiple synchronized Chrome browsers (or Chrome OS) and ...

Google has just released Chrome 8 to the Stable channel. The updated version is already making its way to a computer near you and will bring your Chrome installation up to version 8.0.552.215. This version is also being released to the Beta channel, since the previous version there was 8.0.552.210. It looks like the Beta and Stable channels will host identical releases for a while, until Google ...

Google Chrome can already create application shortcuts for your favorite sites via the wrench menu. The option had disappeared for a while, but made its return earlier this year. Adding Gmail to your taskbar is as simple as loading it in a tab, clicking the wrench, choosing tools and then clicking create application shortcut.
Recently, Chromium added that same functionality to Chrome Web apps. ...
