If your Android phone shipped with the Amazon MP3 app pre-installed, you may have found yourself frustrated by a couple things. First, it's not so easy to remove. Second, the app had a nasty habit of starting up automatically when you power on or reboot your phone whether you wanted it to or not -- making the fact that you can't remove it even more vexing.
Fortunately, Amazon has finally ...

One thing I've always preferred about Linux over Windows is the fact that just about every big-name distro includes a slick, easy-to-use package manager that makes installing and updating software a simple procedure. If you're using Windows, you need to know where to go to download apps -- in Linux, you just need to fire up your package manager and browse or search.
We've looked at a few ...

We know that a Windows Phone 7 update is coming soon, and we know it's going to fix some performance issues and bring copy/paste to the Microsoft mobile OS. We also know it's going to plug the Chevron WP7 jailbreak hole. What we don't know for sure is when it's going to be released.
Still, now that the update is in the hands of select Windows Phone 7 developers there's a good chance Microsoft ...

While it doesn't sound as though everything rumored to be rolled into the first Windows Phone 7 update, there will be a number of enhancements delivered this month. CEO Steve Ballmer didn't get too specific during his keynote at CES 2011, saying only "Microsoft will release a series of Windows Phone 7 updates over the next few months, including adding the copy-and-paste feature and improving the ...

iPhoto '11 gained another point release yesterday, hitting 9.1.1. Slightly more than just bug fixes this time around, email got some attention with two extra email themes called 'Classic' and 'Journal.' A preference has also been added allowing you to specify the size of the photo being sent out via email and to allow photos to be emailed using an external client. Some other small tweaks have ...

Office 2011 for Mac might be the best yet, but it's still one of those key products that constantly needs updates, fixes and patches. Microsoft let fly Office 2011 14.0.2 this week, featuring such highlights as improved reliability, improved stability, and a fix to the annoying bug that made you close Office AutoUpdate to be able to actually run the Office Update.
If you have any applications ...

Yes, Acrobat and Flash are two of the most-exploited pieces of software out there today, but Adobe has done a much better job of responding to security concerns in 2010. Patches are more frequent, and major improvements have been rolled out -- like the sandboxing which was added in Acrobat and Reader X.
Still, there are always people who can't -- for one reason or another -- install an update ...

Instapaper, one of our favorite apps for the iPad and iPhone, has just been updated for iOS 4.2. You can now print saved articles using AirPrint to any AirPrint enabled printer, or through your Mac, directly from Instapaper. I'm not quite sure why you'd want to print an article when it's already in a print substitute, but should you have the urge the option is there.
Sharing seems to play a ...

Lest you think blogger Long Zheng is all about Microsoft apps, our Australian friend has a keen eye on all kinds of bleeding-edge software. -- including Firefox 4. Today he noticed a change in the Firefox 4 nightly build -- sexier, semi-translucent alert dialogs, complete with a blur effect to obscure the webpage content in the background.
The new alerts fit well with Firefox 4's default ...

Once again, don't get your hopes up too much if you see the orange-yellow dot on your Google Chrome wrench icon today -- there are updates for both the Beta and Dev channels, but most of the changes aren't forward-facing. There are, however, some behind-the-scenes updates that are worth knowing about.
On the Beta Channel, several Web Store related fixes were pushed. Access to Chrome's private ...

Not more than two weeks out of the gate, Microsoft has already released its first update for Office 2011 for Mac. A bug fix release, the update will take 110.5 MB of your precious hard disk space, but should stop unexpected quits and hangs. Some specific applications get a bit more attention -- Excel gets an update to its handling of revised data for formulae, plus improvements to the FORMAT ...

Yesterday, Google delivered a major update to Chrome Beta users, bumping the version to 8.0.552.28. The changelog for this release is a doozy, and runs down loads of security updates, UI tweaks, and plumbing for features which are still coming soon (like Cloud Print and password sync).
You'll also find plenty of new experimental features on the Chrome Beta about:flags page. The big addition, ...

Apple recently let loose an update for iPhoto '11, which should prevent the database corruption bug that a few vocal users experienced upon firing up the new version for the first time. It's a pretty serious error if you happen to lose your entire photo library just because iPhoto has to "upgrade your library," so let's hope Apple's put this one to bed. Still, if you haven't upgraded yet, it ...

Last month we brought you a sneak peek at the new Yahoo Mail interface -- and as of today anyone can sign up. Other than the usual slew of new features -- a virus scanner, spam protection, sexy mobile clients -- this launch also heralds the launch of a very purple theme... which you can't seem to change...
There's an accompanying Yahoo! Developer Network blog post if you want details of the ...
