Finding a really good free text replacement/expander app for Windows isn't an easy task. Yes, AutoHotKey is an excellent program, but it's not a good fit for people who don't enjoy hacking plain text configuration files. Breevy is an extremely nice GUI app, but it's shareware. Auspex -- developed as part of NANY 2011 at Donationcoder -- might be the free program we've been waiting for.

Text entry on a small screen is a formidable problem; as can be expected, there are a ton of competing solutions, with Swype (and Swype-like keyboards, such as SlideIT) getting a lot of attention.
8pen takes a completely different tack to the keyboard problem, by eliminating it altogether. To paraphrase Bob Marley, "no keyboard, no cry." According to 8pen, by drawing "natural" gestures on your ...

If you're a fan of life hacks of any kind and you can't touch-type, you're wasting your time. Just like the best current upgrade you can give your computer in terms of overall speed improvement is a solid-state drive, the best overall speed improvement you can give yourself when it comes to the time you spend on a computer is the ability to touch-type. Key Hero is an online typing test implemented in Flash. It's very, very good, and very addictive.
You'll be given an assortment of texts -- all from known books or films, and all quite nice to read. You hit Start, and it then waits for your first keystroke. Once you start typing, the timer kicks in. When you make a mistake, it beeps and turns red. You fix it, and continue.
At the end your overall ...

Typing on the iPhone is one of those things that even the most die-hard of Apple fans will often admit to hating. It may be the most accurate out there in terms of touchscreen performance, but it's still a tiny touchscreen.

One thing about laptops that drives a lot of my customers nuts is the touchpad. If I had a nickel for every time someone brought a laptop in complaining that their mouse pointer suddenly jumped somewhere else on the screen and messed up their typing, I'd have at least $10.15.
Hey, I'm in a small town - that would nearly count as an epidemic.
TouchFreeze is a tiny, open source program ...
