For a while now, people have questioned whether multi-network chat app Trillian was worth its pricetag. With the company's latest update, there's a better chance users will say "yes."
The big addition is that chats in Trillian are now shared in realtime across all your devices -- similar to how Google Talk and Skype have handled chats for some time. The difference, of course, is that Trillian ...

After having just received a slimmer, vertical interface, the F1 sharing add-on for Firefox 4 has received another minor bump from the team at Mozilla Messaging. This time, F1 has added support for bit.ly accounts -- enabling you to track statistics for your shares alongside your other bit.ly links.
F1 also now offers better security out-of-the-box by storing OAuth information in the ...

Mozilla Labs has posted another update to its F1 social sharing add-on for Firefox. Right off the bat, you'll notice a new vertical UI has replaced the full-width horizontal look of previous versions -- and rather than rudely shunting everything out of the way, F1 floats above your current Web page in a Firefox 4'ish notification box.
F1 now lets you share with your LinkedIn contacts, Twitter ...

Google has begun rolling out a new version of its cross-site navigation bar. Google's search tools still get top billing, with Gmail sliding in just before the more menu -- which is where you'll have to go to find your Reader link. Elements have a bit more padding now as well, which will make them more finger-friendly on your Android 3.0 Honeycomb tablet (or other touchscreen device). Another ...

MetroTwit was one of our favorite new Windows apps of 2010, and the first updates in 2011 have added even more functionality to the already slick Twitter program. For starters, several new URL shortening services have been added, including goo.gl. There's also TwitLonger support for updates you just can't cram into that 140-character limit.
While some users may enjoy MetroTwit's autocomplete ...

Google has rolled out an update to its search results that will make your friends and contacts play a prominent role in what you see first. Google Social Search has been around since 2009 but has played a fairly minor supporting role until now. With the update, Google will use data from sources like Buzz, Reader, Twitter, Quora, and Flickr to position your personalized search results.

Liveshare by Cooliris has been a popular way to share photos with friends for iOS and Android users for some time. Now, the company has released a Windows Phone 7 app -- and it's a must-have app for WP7 socialites who love to snap pics on the go.
Sign in to the app via your Facebook account, then head to Liveshare's personal screen to create a new photostream. If you're creating a stream, ...

Digg V4 didn't receive the warmest of welcomes from faithful users when it launched last year. Now, the company is beginning the move to Digg V5 -- another retooling of the site's interface, which it says is based upon users' most requested changes.
The new look dumps the category sidebar and search box, and the overall appearance is less cluttered than Digg V4. Digg has also finished importing ...

Mflow is a new music discovery app I came across in the Chrome Web Store -- though as with many "apps" there, it was little more than a bookmark with a pretty icon. In truth, the mflow (yes, it's all lower case...) beta works in any browser.
Sign yourself up, or simply log in with your Facebook account and choose a username. After that, it's all about searching, following, and "flow"-ing. When ...

If you're a music lover who browses the Web with Google Chrome, ExtensionFM is really a must-have extension. It allows you to build a library of all the music you discover while sifting through music sites like Spinner, Tumblr blogs, and just about anywhere else you find embedded MP3 tunes on a page.
Dan Kantor and crew have just released ExtensionFM (exFM) v2, and it's a major upgrade. For ...

Clearly threatened by the recent competition put up by RockMelt, Flock has brought in both speed and security updates with a new Chromium 7 core. Even the maligned Mac OS X version of Flock has been blessed with a move from the old Gecko engine to the speedier WebKit-based Chromium. In the social stakes, Flock touts a 'one of a kind' sidebar full of networking and sharing goodness, with Facebook, ...

The Web is all about being social these days. When you take this "social" buzzword and reduce it down to brass tacks, you often end up with a bunch of widgets, buttons and other annoyances crowded around the content you're actually interested in reading.
WidgetBlock is a Chrome add-on that makes short work of a whole bunch of common widgets and buttons for social services. In one fell swoop it ...

TuneCrank is another crack at a familiar problem: How do you make people listen to unfamiliar independent artists, and help the good stuff float to the top?
Uvumi tries to do this, and so does Bandcamp in a completely different take. TuneCrank is yet another attempt, with a stress on bare-bones simplicity and minimalism. It's basically just a player with "thumbs up" and "thumbs down" buttons, and ...

TweetDeck for Android has just been updated to 1.0.3. This update, while not a major one, isn't all about fixing bugs either. Some important -- and previously missing -- functionality is now built in.
TweetDeck for Android now has support for landscape mode for all update detail views, and gets support for TwitPic and manual URL shortening through Bit.ly. Users can now delete direct messages ...
