It was really only a question of when, but Windows 7 has finally overtaken Vista in operating system market share. Windows 7 is now closing in on 20% as Vista's presence continues to slide. Vista's lack of popularity aside, Windows 7's rise is still impressive -- especially when you consider the fact that widespread enterprise adoption won't really take off until service pack one is released ...

Folks like those of us on the Download Squad team might have more use for screenshot tools than some, but they're still incredibly handy from time to time even if you're not blogging or designing. If you spend most of your time in your web browser -- and that browser happens to be Google Chrome -- you might want to check out Awesome Screenshot by the folks behind Diigo.

Google Chrome continues its charge ahead, and has finally overtaken Safari to become the third most popular browser in the United States. With 8.97% of the total browser market, Chome now sits behind only Firefox and Internet Explorer -- both of which will take a little more time to catch.
Globally, Chrome fares better still -- with a 9.4% share. That's a pretty meteoric rise for a relatively ...

If you've ever used Facebook or Twitter, you're already familiar with Google Buzz's latest feature: reshare. Resharing is the equivalent of sharing in Facebook or retweeting in Twitter. It quickly shares someone else's post in your stream, with your commentary added and a link back to the original source.
It's not so much that reshare is a cool new feature, just Google playing the inevitable ...

Hey, do you remember Google Bookmarks? I didn't either, until I heard the news that Google Bookmarks now has the ability to create and share lists of links. After a moment of confusion, I realized that Google Bookmarks wasn't a new product, and I started playing with lists.
They're actually quite useful! On top of creating and sharing, you can import all of the bookmarks from a friend's list ...

"Retweeting" -- reposting someone else's content on your own account -- is so popular on Twitter that there was a huge user debate about how the site should handle official support for it. Facebook seems to have taken notice, introducing its own retweet-like "via" feature, which allows you to post other people's shared items in your own activity stream (automatically attributed to the original ...

We've all been watching the browser share trends for quite some time now, wondering when the day would come that an alternative finally shoved Internet Explorer off its perch.
It's finally happened - at least when we're talking about the most popular single version of a browser. You can see it all in the bar graph above: Firefox 3.5 has dethroned Internet Explorer 7.
Yes, we can all see ...

So Microsoft has partnered with Yahoo!, and Bing will now provide the heavy lifting when it comes to search. When I read the news this morning, I immediately thought of all the Yahoo bloatware I've seen over the years on certain OEM systems - I won't single out anyone like HP for this. Live (and now Bing) would have been the default search engine on all these systems, were it not for the Yahoo! ...

Like previously mentioned Rapidspread, Gazup is a web service that allows you to upload a file and mirror it on several hosts with ease. Gazup's interface is decidedly more Web 2.0 (it's up to you to decide whether that's a good or bad thing). Apart from uploading a file directly from your machine, Gazup also supports mirroring files from a URL. It's a handy way to provide alternative downloads ...

While Microsoft is taking steps to web-ify its offline office suite, Adobe is joining the crowded field of companies offering web-based office applications. Adobe is buying Virtual Ubiquity, makers of Buzzword, a new online word processor. At the same time, the company is launching a beta of a new document sharing service cleverly titled "Share." (Don't worry that's just an internal codename. ...
