While paying for goods from your phone my be common elsewhere in the world, it's been slow to catch on here in North America. Starbucks, however, may well have gotten the ball rolling, with the release of a pair of apps for iPhone and BlackBerry users.

Mflow is a new music discovery app I came across in the Chrome Web Store -- though as with many "apps" there, it was little more than a bookmark with a pretty icon. In truth, the mflow (yes, it's all lower case...) beta works in any browser.
Sign yourself up, or simply log in with your Facebook account and choose a username. After that, it's all about searching, following, and "flow"-ing. When ...

One of the biggest names in social gaming has decided to make a move into the application space. Zynga -- who brought the immensely popular Farmville to Facebook -- has purchased Flock, one of the first Web browsers to offer an integrated social networking experience.
Zynga's massive userbase could certainly give Flock a boost -- especially since it's a foregone conclusion that Zynga users are ...

Google's recent payment expansion was good news for developers and users alike, but there's even better news today. According to The Street, the deal with eBay to integrate PayPal payments is all but done and will be announced at PayPal's developer conference on October 26th.

Reports abound this morning that Microsoft may be taking a look at Symantec. After Intel's unexpected purchase of McAfee recently, prevailing sentiment is that other major players may all make similar moves. The rumors stem from analyst Katherine Eggbert's statement that "without a strategic sale or break-up near-term, a high-level management change may perhaps be the next step demanded by anxious ...

Holy acquisitions, Batman!
While most of the IT guys I know aren't fans of McAfee -- especially after that teensy little definition screwup which resulted in thousands of unwanted desktop support hours -- Intel is obviously a fan. In a press release this morning, the IT behemoth has announced that they're swallowing up McAfee for the princely sum of $7.7 billion dollars.
Whether guys like ...

Advertising makes the Internet go round, but it's also become a tremendous problem. Between unsavory malware peddlers injecting their nefarious scripts into unsuspecting sites and misleading software ads tricking people into installing useless registry and driver tools, it's no wonder ad blocking has become so commonplace.
And now McAfee, longtime developers of security-related software, are ...

Apple has reportedly just purchased Lala, a music service probably best known as a partner in Google's new music search results. Lala offers streaming access to its music library at a rate of 10 cents a track for unlimited replays. Does this mean a cheap streaming option will eventually come to iTunes?
Lala doesn't have a huge user base, so perhaps Apple is planning its own streaming music ...

According to TechCrunch, Ars will be placed under the Wired Digital umbrella under CondéNet, which was made whole with the 2006 acquisition of Wired.com, and may be combined with Wired and Wired.com. The sale will be announced some ...

Could Google possibly buy another company? You bet, there is always room inside the what seems to be the hollow halls of the Googleplex. Rumors are getting passed around about a purchase of SimplyHired, the job search engine. SimplyHired, who just raised $13M from NewsCorp has over 2 million monthly uniques, which is a perfect traffic amount to make a sizable income from Google's AdWords. Can ...

Google is rolling out some new Checkout features that could, in the end, make their dreams of a serious PayPal contender a reality. The changes start off at the merchant level with the availability of a coupon creator and an email invoice product. Also, Google is taking out all transaction fees until the end of you year, most likely to get merchants hooked on Checkout for the crazy holidays buying ...
