Angry Birds for Nokia's Symbian smartphones has been updated to version 1.4.2 (the previous one being 1.2.1, for those keeping track). This is the 'normal' version of the game, not the holiday-themed Angry Birds Seasons, mind.
The update brings two new worlds, one golden egg world, and two new birds: Boomerang and the Steroid Bird. There's also a new splash screen, and the main dashboard theme ...

Opera Mobile 10.1 for Symbian has become available yesterday. After a period of public beta testing, the Norwegian browser has become faster than ever -- and is, right now, possibly the fastest browser available for Symbian.
Making its debut in the stable 10.1 version is a just-in-time compiler for Opera's Carakan JavaScript engine, that makes its JavaScript rendering a whopping nine times ...

This week, Opera let loose a new beta of their latest and greatest proxy-based browser for S60-powered smartphones. Essentially giving any Nokia S60 phone a fast and fairly decent browsing experience, Opera Mini 5.1 beta now supports the platform's native copy and paste feature, and it can call up the native email client. This doesn't sound like a lot, but in usability stakes, the ability to copy ...

In an interview with the news service IDG, Intel's vice president of Software and Services says that the company is developing a tool to port iPhone applications to Intel's Atom-powered MeeGo smartphones.
Without getting into too much detail, the processors used by Apple's devices (and almost every phone on the market) are not compatible with Intel's Atom processor. This tool would, in theory, ...

Got an HTC Desire, Nexus One, or Dell Streak burning a hole in your pocket? Wish there was something you could run on it besides Android? Probably not, but for those of you out there who just can't stand running stock anything on your devices, why not take the plunge and install Meego?
Anybody else think that the Dell Streak pictured on the Meego Wiki page could use a serious screen ...

While there's much ado about Flash support (or lack thereof) on the iPhone and Android, Silverlight hasn't exactly been at the forefront of mobile software discussions in a while. Don't sell Microsoft short, though: Silverlight for Symbian has arrived, and it's the first version of SIlverlight on any mobile platform. The Microsoft rich media player -- not as ubiquitous as Flash, but still useful ...

Based on a very interesting job posting at Microsoft, Neowin is speculating that Office 2010 might become part of the mobile experience for more than just WIndows Phone users. The job (which has since been filled) called for a developer to help "bring Office Mobile to hundreds of millions of Nokia smartphone owners, followed by other leading smartphone platforms."
Wait, other smartphone ...

Owners of Nokia's impressive N900 handset can already browse the web using Firefox, and now they've got another excellent option: Chromium. Unlike Firefox for Maemo, however, this is the full-on desktop Chromium browser (for better or worse).
It's been ported from the 32-bit Debian package and requires a little command-fu to install, but the procedure is pretty simple. The four-step process is ...

It appears that Microsoft's partnership with Nokia to port Silverlight to Symbian will soon bear fruit.
Microsoft posted the developer tools and the beta version of the code on March 11th but then quickly pulled them down again. Mary Jo Foley thinks it may launch at Mix next week.
Mobile may be the killer app to get Silverlight in more users hands. With Silverlight being heavily ...

![S^3 smartphone OS gets the video preview treatment]()
With all the hubbub over Windows Phone 7 Series at Mobile World Congress this week, you'd think it was the only upcoming mobile OS previewed at the event. And you'd be wrong for thinking that, because the folks at Symbian gave us the first look at the upcoming Symbian S^3 platform as well.
Symbian S^3 will be the first version of the platform to be fully open source. Any handset maker will be ...

The folks at Mozilla are on a roll this month: first, they got Firefox 3.6 out the door and onto the desktops of millions of users, and now they're delivering Firefox to the palm of your hand. That is, if you own a Maemo phone, like the Nokia N900. Firefox for Maemo just got its third release candidate, which indicates it's quite close to a final release. RC3 cleans up a few bugs and addresses an ...
