When the iOS 4.3 beta emerged it included 4-and-5-finger gestures for the iPad, such as pinching to return to the home screen, and swiping to reveal the multitasking tray or switch apps. Just one week later, Apple said that iPad gestures wouldn't make the cut, and indeed, iOS 4.3 was summarily released without gestures for the iPad and recently-released iPad 2.
Don't despair, however: they can ...

The way webOS handles task switching -- via its card interface -- is one of my favorite features of Palm/HP's mobile OS. Microsoft seems to like it, too, at least that's what we assume since the Windows Phone 7 multitasking update will bring a very similar experience. In the image above, you can see a zoomed-out display of all currently running apps, which you'll be able to flick through and tap ...

With an update to version 1.5, Photoshop Express for iOS now supports the iPhone and iPod touch's Retina Display, and iOS 4.2's multitasking. The app is free to download, as always.
The app received a few other neat updates, too. You can now shoot continuously from inside the app, making action photography a whole lot easier. Uploading to Photoshop.com and Facebook is also much improved: with ...

Reeder, one of our must have apps for the iPad, has just received an update for iOS4.2. Finally, iPad users can take advantage of iOS4's multitasking capabilities, with Reeder able to complete its synchronization when running in the background. It's difficult to truly describe how useful this is going to be for users with large RSS lists, as it can take a good while to sync and cache all that ...

I remember when you could use Skype on your iPhone, but it couldn't run in the background, which made it useless for taking incoming calls. Well, that was yesterday. In the brave new multitasking world of iOS 4, the latest version of Skype can now run in the background, and incoming calls are no problem.
You can just leave Skype going, and you'll get a ring and a push notification when a call ...

Twitter's official iPhone app -- formerly known as Tweetie -- has updated to support multitasking in iOS 4. That makes it one of the first apps to enable the new fast app switching feature, which allows you to jump between Twitter and other multitasking-enabled apps without having to return to the home screen. Twitter has beaten Facebook and others to the punch on this feature, which is a ...

Apple's iPhone OS 4.0 announcement this morning delivered plenty of features we expected, and some we didn't. In fact, it adds 100 new features in total, and they'll all be in users' pockets this summer. Developers get 1500(!) new APIs that provide access to parts of the phone they've never been able to use before, and a developer preview will be available today.
So, what's being added? ...

Yes, iPad mania has captured the attention of tech geeks around the world, but it's not the only Apple creation worth talking about this week. iPhone OS 4.0 arrives on Thursday -- in demo form, anyway -- at a just-announced Apple event. Members of the press were just invited to cover the announcement, but the invitation didn't include any details about what new features might be announced.

iPad fever seems to have gripped the iNation. If looking at your diminutive iPhone or iPod Touch is getting you down, and you wish you could be stroking a beautiful new iPad, maybe the mod described at Redmond Pie will tide you over.
Modifying the iPhone operating system isn't possible unless you jailbreak your device, but once you do a huge number of possible modifications are available. For this ...

iPhone owners might not have access to iPhone OS 3.2 yet, but it's already running on the new iPad. Our sister site, Engadget, was able to score some of the details of the new features in 3.2, and it sounds like it's going to be great for both the iPhone and the iPad. The biggest surprise might be the inclusion of some video calling code that even includes multitasking while on a video call. This ...
