Esteemed bleeding-edge browser downloaders, we are saddened to announce that Chrome's bulbous, off-center and slightly 90s-looking logo is back.
The change occurred yesterday, when the Chrome Dev channel was moved from version 11 to version 12. We're not yet sure whether this is simply a mistake, or an actual reversion to the previous logo. We're seeing the change on both Windows and Mac ...

Just a week after its open-source brother Chromium had its logo summarily flattened, Chrome has followed suit. For now it's only available in the Developer channel, but presumably it will quickly percolate down to the Beta and Stable channels. There are some more images of the new logo after the break.
It was originally speculated that the Chromium logo change was to differentiate it from ...

The latest nightly build of Chromium 11 now has a new two-dimensional logo.
There's absolutely no information about why the change took place -- which is a little bit odd for an open source project -- but we assume it's to further differentiate Chromium from its closed-source and commercial cousin Chrome. The Chromium Code Review page for the patch simply shows Googler Elliot Glaysher ...

We're sure hoping the Chrome Web Store is nearing launch readiness -- previous launch dates have come and gone, and all we've seen so far are presentation slides. Progress continues, however, and you may have spotted another subtle change on your Chromium or Chome's new tab page. The original multi-colored hexagon has been replaced with a more logical icon: a Chrome-colored shopping bag. So far, ...

Google has announced a subtle re-tooling of the Gmail homepage, trimming the verbal fat and giving the page a cleaner, more organized appearance. It's hard to believe, but the new version of the page is lighter by about 250 words. The update shouldn't come as a surprise, what with Google's penchant for keeping things slim.
More interesting than the facelift on Gmail.com is the updated Gmail ...

In my post introducing iTunes 10, I mentioned that the new iTunes logo was sure to be controversial. Looks like I got that right! Wired News is reporting that a designer emailed Steve Jobs to tell him that the new logo "sucks" and throws away a decade of "instant product recognition." The designer, Josh Kopac, got one of Steve's trademark terse responses: "We disagree."
A lot of people in the ...

If you've been testing out Facebook Places, you may have noticed that the Places icon looks like the number four ... in a square. Is this a blatant glove-slap at Places rival/partner Foursquare? Is Foursquare so synonymous with location-based check-in services that Facebook decided it would best represent the Places services?
It's a lot more innocent than that, according to the artist behind ...

Think of this one as a little tidbit to enjoy with your morning coffee! BSkyB, the owner of the Sky TV brand and a large portion of mogul Rupert Murdoch's media empire, has claimed that Skype's trademark application is confusingly similar to the extant Sky TV trademark.
You might be tittering at the stupidity, but apparently BSkyB even has consumer research to back up its claims! People ...

You are looking at the new logo for Firefox Mobile: The Pocketfox! It looks more like some Harry Potter fan-art in my opinion -- someone with a Fawkes the Phoenix fetish -- but no matter! It's cute and very vibrant. It will certainly stand out, and ultimately that's what matters. I can't help but wonder if the 'What's that in your pocket?' double entendre was intentional or not. I'd like to ...

Designers, what is the number one thing your customers ask of you when they see your mockups? "Make my logo bigger, please!" Companies spend large amounts of money on ad runs and web developments and want to stand out. Well, there are now a few things on the market that can help businesses increase the size of logos online and in print materials, fix whitespace, easily create starbursts, make ...

Red Hat is releasing the latest version of its Fedora Linux software today, and along with new features for users, Fedora 8 is the first version of the Fedora software that's targeted at developers who want to create their own Fedora-based Linux distributions complete with a new logo. There are already plenty of Linux distros based on other popular platforms like Ubuntu, so it kind of makes ...

Dennis Hwang is the webmaster from Google that designs those wicked little Google logos that seem to be changing all the time, depending on the season, and special occasion.
