We're sure hoping the Chrome Web Store is nearing launch readiness -- previous launch dates have come and gone, and all we've seen so far are presentation slides. Progress continues, however, and you may have spotted another subtle change on your Chromium or Chome's new tab page. The original multi-colored hexagon has been replaced with a more logical icon: a Chrome-colored shopping bag. So far, ...

In my post introducing iTunes 10, I mentioned that the new iTunes logo was sure to be controversial. Looks like I got that right! Wired News is reporting that a designer emailed Steve Jobs to tell him that the new logo "sucks" and throws away a decade of "instant product recognition." The designer, Josh Kopac, got one of Steve's trademark terse responses: "We disagree."

If you've been testing out Facebook Places, you may have noticed that the Places icon looks like the number four ... in a square. Is this a blatant glove-slap at Places rival/partner Foursquare? Is Foursquare so synonymous with location-based check-in services that Facebook decided it would best represent the Places services?
It's a lot more innocent than that, according to the artist behind ...

File this one under "why didn't I think of that." Blogger and software engineer Abhishek Bhatnagar has posted a simple, clever way to pin multiple folders to your Windows 7 taskbar (or Superbar). Yes, you can already pin as many as you want to the Explorer icon, but it's still nice to be able to have single-click access to your most-used folders. Or you could just switch on the quick launch ...

Although Mail Badger sounds like a small woodland creature trained to deliver packages, it's actually an OS X app that allows you to add extra badges to the Apple Mail dock icon. For some people, it's good enough to have one single red badge, proudly displaying the number of unread messages from all their email accounts. The developers of Mail Badger didn't want to stop there: why not have a ...

Awhile back I blogged about changing Windows folder icons to make navigation faster. It's a great productivity booster and I've been doing it ever since, but I'm going to have to give iColorFolder a try. Like the folder icons, iColorFolder makes folder navigation in Windows easier, in this case by letting you assign colors to your folder icons, which is done from the right-click context menu. It ...

From the
seems-really-obvious-in-hindsight department comes this Windows productivity tip from Lifehacker: For folders in
Windows that you frequently access but spend maybe a little too much time trying to find, give them a
special icon to make them stick out. It's as easy as right-click on the folder in question, choosing Properties,
hitting the Customize tab, and clicking on Change Icon... Like ...
