Before I start, I'm not quite sure why you'd want to do this: why not just drag out a Google Docs tab and pretend it's Notepad? That's the whole point of Chrome and other minimalist browsers: they want to be an application platform!
But, anyway, if you do want to edit Google Docs from your desktop, Nocs is an excellent solution. It's just like a super-powered, cloud-enabled Windows Notepad. As ...

I'm sure most of you have used Google Docs in one form or another. You might've shared a document with a friend or collaboratively planned your trip expenses in a shared spreadsheet -- maybe you've even used the new 'public sharing' feature for more nefarious purposes!
Even if you're looking forward to Microsoft's Office Web Apps, the point remains: we're doing more and more processing in the ...

Late last week Google turned on 'public sharing' in Docs. You could always share files with friends or via an obfuscated 'secret link', but the idea of public, searchable links is something new. Not only is it an issue for piracy -- I tested it with a 350MB TV show, and it worked fine! -- but this could also be the opening salvo of Google's counterattack against Dropbox and Microsoft's SkyDrive.

Those ingenious folks over at RescueTime have compiled another fantastic set of statistics -- last time it was how much money the Google Pac-Man homage cost the world, and today it's some damning graphs of just how much market share Gmail and Docs are gaining at the expense of Microsoft's Office suite.
Last year, Outlook lost almost 6% of its users, while Gmail gained 3%. Google Calendar shows ...

Google has a lot of services, and let's face it, many of us use several of them throughout our daily lives. Most people probably don't even know half of them, and people who can name 20 of them probably don't bother devoting bookmark space to more than a handful (I know I don't). If you like the idea of having all of them on hand at a moment's notice but don't feel like making an entire bookmark ...

It's hot off the press, and still being slowly unrolled, but the Google Docs blog has just announced some major changes to its office productivity suite of web tools. You can stop reading now and watch the video if you want to find out what's new, or read on for some bullet points!
Faster -- what with Google Docs being entirely in the browser, things can sometimes get a bit slow with ...

Rejoice, small-, medium- and enterprise-size users of Microsoft Exchange! You can now migrate your company's entire database of contacts, emails and calendars to Google Apps. The tool takes the form of a small app that you can download from Google -- all you have to do is install it, run it... and that's it!
It works with both Exchange 2003 and 2007, and you need to be a Google Apps Premier or ...

The Outlook Social Connector first debuted back in November 2009, and at that time, only LinkedIn was supported. Today, the MySpace plug-in has been made available, and now you can see your friends' easily-excited, angst-ridden emo updates in Outlook!
If you're running Outlook 2010 Beta (which is very, very nice, incidentally), you'll need to update your Outlook Social Connector (OSC) first. ...

The announcement for the new marketplace is actually going on right now. Head on over to the Google Code YouTube Channel to watch the live broadcast.
Google Apps, if you're confused by the sheer number of 'apps'-related terms used in conversation nowadays, are Google's in-the-cloud business solutions. Today's launch does not represent the launch of apps that you and I will be able to use with ...

If you're one of the many iPhone owners who don't enjoy using the built-in Mail app, you're in luck. Now there's a new app that handles multiple Gmail accounts in an interface that's a lot like Gmail's mobile website ... but better. It's called Mailroom, and you can grab it in the app store for $2.99.
One of Mailroom's best features is the "TrueNew" new message count, which shows both actual ...

Signing up for Google Apps for your domain is a pretty sweet deal, but there's still the matter of your current email account, and all the messages that come with it. Fortunately, Google has anticipated the demise of your old email account, and taken the liberty of planning for its future. Email packrats who run Windows have had access to a Google Email Uploader tool for some time, and now ...

It appears an email is being sent out to the administrators of Google Apps accounts informing them that support for legacy browsers is going to be discontinued. Specifically, IE6 is being called out, but Google specifies that only Internet Explorer 7.0, Firefox 3.0, Google Chrome 4.0, Safari 3.0 -- and all newer versions of these browsers -- will continue to be supported.
This is great news, as it ...

The war between Microsoft and Google for your web-based document business just got a lot more serious.
Google has been positioning Google Apps as an Office killer and encouraging companies to adopt it. Meanwhile, Microsoft countered with a web-based component to Office 2010. The latest move comes from Google, though, with the acquisition of DocVerse.
DocVerse is a service that allows users ...

Although Zoho offers a suite of apps that competes with Google Apps, there's no reason for them to let the huge Google Apps userbase slip through their fingers when it comes to project management. Zoho Projects, the planning and collaboration web app from Zoho, now integrates with Google Apps. You can now sign into Zoho Projects with your Google Apps login, and plug your Google Docs right into ...

If you use Google Apps on your domain, you can share and collaborate with other users through a new service called Socialwok. It enables sharing calendars, docs, spreadsheets and presentations amongst accounts, and adding media from other sites like YouTube and SlideShare. It also offers Facebook-like activity streams, and lets you publish to Twitter, FriendFeed, Facebook or LinkedIn. Socialwok ...
