Google may be prepping to update the user interface of iGoogle, its entry into the personalized home page space. A user noticed the slight change while visiting iGoogle Japan, and sent proof to the Google Operating System Blog.
As for what's new, the rounded corners are gone, and controls are now only shown when you mouse over a gadget. Also, each gadget now gets its own little icon that can ...

The Microsoft Kinect hacks just keep on coming, and we'll probably be seeing even more cool apps released now that first-party drivers are available for download. Today, we've got a glimpse at a new open source project called KinEmote in action. It's designed to take advantage of your Kinect in its natural habitat: the living room.
KinEmote is a -- you guessed it -- remote control app which ...

Google Wave may be dead as we once knew it, but it looks like Google may be intent on keeping its many Gadgets alive for the long haul. An experiment showed up today on Google Labs called Google Shared Spaces, but judging from what it's been through since it went up on Sunday morning, it may have been entirely accidental.
The idea behind Shared Spaces is a simple one; the old Gadgets ...

Not everyone is a fan of desktop widgets -- if that's you, then HTC Home is not a download you'll be interested in. If, however, you're like me and you have a second (or third or fourth) monitor and you don't mind giving up a little real estate to some snazzy desktop app candy, HTC Home might be right up your alley.
Previously the app only included the trademark weather widget, but HTC Home's ...

It seems like just about any time we post a Windows Gadget here at Download Squad a number of commenters lament the fact that Aero Glass isn't supported. Well, this one's for you!
DeviantArt user dncube has put together a nice collection of glassed-out gadgets. All the basics are included: clock, calendar, performance meters, Wi-Fi signal strength, RSS feed reader, and weather. The pack also ...

The Googlemonster never stops looking for new companies to devour...This morning's feast was LabPixies, who develop addictive casual games for iPhone and Android as well as web gadgets for sites like Facebook, iGoogle, Orkut, MySpace, and Hi5.
What would the big G possibly want with a company like that? Analytics seem like a safe bet. Google makes its cash from advertising -- and it needs all ...

Showing off the truly omnivorous and omnipotent nature of Wave, there is now an internal Extension Gallery. All you have to do is hit the 'Extensions' button on Wave's Navigation menu and voila!
Until now, it's always been a bit tricky to find 'proper' extensions for Wave. There have been a few lists, but gadgets are often plagued with stability issues (or they don't work at all), and robots ...

Looking for some fun, useful gadgets for your Windows 7 or Vista desktop? Sebastian compiled a list for the Windows 7 launch, and the crew at Into Windows have now shared a slick set of 14 which are dressed up (or is that undressed?) in transparent Aero Glass sexiness!

iGoogle, Google's customizable homepage, has some pretty sweet-looking themes. In fact, I rounded up the 10 best on Download Squad not too long ago. Google keeps adding themes faster than I can change my homepage, though. The latest fresh batch of themes is food-related, and a bunch of food-themed homepage gadgets have come out at the same time.
While this news probably isn't going to rock ...

digg_url = 'http://downloadsquad.switched.com/2009/11/06/ten-gadgets-to-make-google-wave-more-productive-and-fun/'; It's still early days for Google Wave but already there are a large number of Gadgets and Robots being developed. If you don't know the difference, Gadgets are local, client-side (as in they run on your computer), Javascript and HTML. Robots run remotely on another server.

The number of gadgets for Windows 7, both made by Microsoft and third-party developers, has skyrocketed. Only a few months ago there was little choice and almost nothing worth calling home about -- but today, you're spoilt for choice! What you have here ...

With the impending flood of Windows 7 into the retail channel, you'd think that all related initiatives from Microsoft would be gearing up. After all, this looks like it will be the biggest launch in Microsoft history. Based on the number of Vista systems I see on my workbench that don't even have the sidebar enabled, gadgets are likely a low-priority item. For most users, personalization is ...

If there's a Gmail equivalent of adding a zillion toolbars to your browser, then I'm the poster boy. I've added so many lab features and gadgets that my Gmail functions rather... differently. But I'm all about simplifying, and the Firefox add-on Integrated Gmail does just that while also giving you a window into more Google services in a top-down view. The pic above shows you "minimalist" mode ...

You may have read about Amnesty Generator before on Download Squad - it's a free application that converts thousands of web gadgets and widgets - from dozens of sources - for use right on your Windows desktop. While it was designed for Vista, it's not too surprising to find that it also works well on Windows 7. Apart from iGoogle, other major widget providers like The New York Times, ...

If you're running the Windows 7 public beta, why not head over to Microsoft's personalization page and grab some free downloads to customize your desktop? There are currently 15 themes, 13 wallpapers, and 8 desktop gadgets available. If you're running a compatible setup (i.e. laptop with a tiny secondary display) there are also 5 gadgets available for SideShow. The themes are straight from ...
