As promised in a company blog post, Foursquare 3.0 landed in the App Store packing quite a few changes. The biggest of these is the use of the vast amounts of check-in data Foursquare users generate. The company has now started putting the collective power of every check-in made since its inception two years ago into a new recommendation engine. ...

The latest update to location-based social networking app Foursquare is a big one for international users. Foursquare now comes in five more languages: French, Italian, Spanish, German and Japanese. Even the badges have been translated! This is a big deal for Foursquare's business, because they're now getting checkins from users in nearly 200 different countries, and businesses in those countries ...

Foursquare is taking advantage of Super Bowl madness to launch a new feature: promoted events. When the Green Bay Packers and the Pittsburgh Steelers face off this Sunday, anyone who checks in at the game will get a special Super Bowl badge. You don't have to be one of the people who spent hundreds of dollars on tickets to get in on the Foursquare action. Just shout "Go Steelers" or "Go Packers" ...

Foursquare has tweeted that its users have already uploaded one million photos. Attaching photos to check-ins, tips and venues on Foursquare has only been possible since the service updated its iPhone and Android apps in December. Alongside photo uploads, the update also allows Foursquare users to comment on check-ins, and view their check-in history.
Foursquare's BlackBerry app will be ...

Last week Foursquare rolled out an incredibly important and contemporary new feature: check-in photos. Foursquare is a far cry from being a primary photo-sharing site, however, which is why a quick-thinking developer has made a Web app that automatically forwards your Foursquare photos to Flickr: FlickSquare.
All you need to do is sign into your Foursquare account, connect with FlickSquare, and ...

Foursquare got a pretty big update for the iPhone earlier in the week, but no body puts Android in the corner! Foursquare has added photos and comments to its Android app, just like the iPhone update, giving you the option of attaching a picture to your check-ins and commenting on others. Check-in history has also made the cut, so you can see where you've been complete with comments and photos.

Proving that we are well and truly ensconced by the 21st century, Foursquare has finally added photos to the check-in experience. We can only begin to imagine the technological mountains Foursquare had to scale in order to implement this much-wanted, but dauntingly-hard-to-implement feature. There's also a brand-spanking-new first-party Foursquare iPhone app.
You can now also comment on ...

Over at PreCentral, Dieter Bohn has been lucky enough to score some quality preview time with Incredible -- a Swiss-knife social networking app for webOS. The app is another creation from developer Geoff Gauchet, who built the popular Foursquare app our own Nik Fletcher showed you earlier this year.
Incredible supports all the services you'd expect, like Twitter, Facebook, Flickr, Foursquare, ...

Gowalla has just taken a giant leap forward to become the only location-based check-in app you'll ever need, by unifying four networks into one. Check-in services are all the rage, from media-based apps like GetGlue to the location-based services such as FourSquare, and love it or hate it, checking-in has become an integral part of some people's social experiences. The problem up until now with ...

Foursquare has started awarding a special badge to anyone who checks in at an airport with words such as "TSA", "touch", "grope" or "Don't touch my junk!". The badge is called Baggage Handler. The text that accompanies the unlocking of the badge reads: Looks like you've had your baggage handled. Happy Holidays and have a safe flight!
This, of course, comes right in time for National Opt-Out Day ...

We've got check-in apps for locations, media, and even wine, so why not for websites? That's where Meebo comes in with its soon to be released MiniBar. While it's not the first to bring check-ins to websites -- both Badgeville and OneTrueFan already do that -- Meebo has a significant amount of clout within the in-website add-on bar business with its popular Meebo Bar.
The MiniBar will let you ...

I initially wanted to review TweetDeck for Android back in August, but ruefully I discovered that it only works with Android 2.1-and-later devices! Now, however, via the power of hacked Russian ROMs, I am using Android 2.1. Without further ado, then, TweetDeck for Android.
Android apps with sensible interfaces are few and far between. Interfaces can vary so much between apps that it becomes ...

Here at Download Squad, we're always on the lookout for cool little mobile apps that are both fun to use and useful. Sometimes that involves tickling our creative side and that's where Instagram comes in. Instagram, like many other apps available on the iPhone, allows you to take an image and apply effect filters to it. Some like 'Lord Kelvin" age your photo, others such as "Inkwell" desaturate ...

If you need to find a group of social-networking-savvy females near you, point your mobile browser to wheretheladies.at. This amusing new site uses Foursquare to reveal the nearby locations with the highest numbers of female users checked in. There's apparently also an iPhone application coming, and the interface is (no joke) a big compass that points toward the ladies.
This app may not work ...

Foursquare has announced a 2.0 update for the iPhone version of the app, with Blackberry and Android versions soon to follow (the company doesn't make a webOS version, but I'm sure those devs will update soon). The first thing you'll likely notice is that Tips and To-Dos are now separate menu items. According to their blog, "When we started foursquare, we dreamed it would be much more than ...
