If you used Windows XP for a long time (who didn't?), one of the biggest changes when moving to Windows 7 or Vista was the massively-altered Explorer. While the new Explorer introduces some useful new features, it also removed just as many -- which is where Classic Shell comes in!
We've covered Classic Shell before, but here's the crib note: Classic Shell restores almost every Windows ...

You knew it was coming, and now it's here: NBA Jam is now available for purchase from the App Store. At $4.99, Jam is all the portable b-ball action you can handle on your iOS device -- with unlockable NBA legends including Dr. J and Dennis Rodman, a campaign mode, and play-by-play by Tom Kitzrow (who did the original NBA Jam voicing). As you can tell from the screenshot, even big head mode is ...

It looks like Google isn't stopping at free phone calls to the U.S. and Canada In their never-ending quest to win new fans. They're also going to let you watch all the free, full-length movies you can handle over on YouTube! That's good.
The selection, however, doesn't include current releases and there aren't a lot of big-name films. That's bad. But you can watch loads of classic horror ...

While the bulk of the buzz about HTML5 still seems to be focused on the video tag, there are plenty of other awesome developments cropping up. Things like drag-and-drop attachments in GMail and all those crazy Internet Explorer 9 Test Drive samples.
Then there's the work of developer Joe Huckaby. Joe has taken images created by graphic artist Mark Ferrari to produce some incredibly cool, ...

When I wanted to write a post about WhatIsMyIP, the first thought that came to mind was about the commenters. I read all of your comments (thanks for your kind and useful ones!), and there are always those readers who are looking for the bleeding-edge stuff, and are disappointed when I write about things "everybody knows".
Well guys, this one's not for you – sorry! For those of you who ...

Not everyone appreciates when a favorite application switches to a new default theme. Take Google Chrome, for example, which recently switched from blue to gray. The change is pretty subtle, but Chrome enthusiasts are the kinds of users who like their desktop to look just so -- and when they like something, they'd rather it not change.
Do you want the original blue theme back? That's not a ...

I'm extraordinarily, off-the-scales nostalgic about the early installments of Square Enix's classic RPG series, Final Fantasy. If you're a big RPG nerd, too, you'll be glad to hear that Final Fantasy and Final Fantasy II are due to hit the iPhone soon. There aren't too many great role-playing games currently on the platform, so Square Enix will be filling a big hole in the market.
I'd happily ...

What do you get if you combine two of the three greatest-selling video game franchises of all time? Other than a stupid name, you actually get quite a fun and playable game!
Tuper Tario Tros. looks just like the beginning of a NES or SNES Mario game: you run, you jump, you crush unwitting Koopas... UNTIL -- shock! horror! -- you reach an unscalable wall! Mario can only jump three bricks, not ...

I'm not sure when the last time was that I needed to dig through my start menu. Between the Windows 7 Super Bar and the search box Vista added, there are just easier ways for me to find and launch programs.
Still, for some of my customers, friends, and family, the newer menus are just a distraction. They were fine with Windows XP's interface, and they might not want to be bothered learning ...

Here at Download Squad, we're always excited to report on the latest browsers. In recent months, we've seen some impressive updates to Firefox, Safari and Opera, and the debut of Chrome. Those are all great, but do any of them run on Mac OS 9? Classilla, a Mozilla variant, brings the hottest new browser technology to an unsupported (but fondly remembered) old OS. Classilla comes from the ...

If you were a Mac user during the pre-OS X days, back when the Dock was a twinkle in a UI designer's eye, you remember switching applications via the menubar. Open applications would all be listed, and you could select one to make it active, as well as selectively hiding and showing your apps. If that's the way you like your interface, you should check out ASM and multiXFinder. These two apps ...

It's Friday, and time to take it easy - so how about a Time Waster that only requires you to move your mouse? Hello, RetroShoot! Just because the controls are dead simple doesn't make the game any less fun. It's a packed with colorful old-school arcade goodness. Manouver your ship with the mouse and let your ship take care of the shooting. Apart from that, the only other controls are space bar ...

Palm did an interesting thing with the upcoming Pre smartphone: The company scrapped its old operating system and started from scratch. The new webOS is prettier, easier to use, and more focused on modern apps like web browsers than PalmOS. The problem is, there are more than 30,000 PalmOS apps already out there. And by building a new operating system from the ground up, Palm was kind of telling ...

I loved my Commodore 64 - I even talked my parents into letting me get one of the "mod" cases for it so would look like the newer (and more bad-ass) C128. There were three big Time Wasters for me back then: Zaxxon, 1943, and Gyruss. Zaxxon's crazy pseudo-3d (also referred to as axonometric projection) blew me away. Like Icarus and his wax wings, flying too high or too low caused many untimely ...

Turn out the lights and turn up the volume, it's time to scare yourself silly with some good, old Halloween-y games. Enjoy!
Escape from Hell via Abandonware Dos Think of Diablo, in reverse, with really, really low-fi graphics. That might still not be an accurate description of Escape from Hell, but it's as close as I can get to a modern comparison. It's an RPG, and you'll have to fight your ...
