Recently, Google has been busy beefing up Latitude to make it more competitive with other location apps -- and more fun to use. Location history was added recently, iOS users can post check-ins via Latitude, and now Google has begun rolling out location-based deals which are tied to the service.

Facebook just updated its iPhone app to include some frequently requested features including the ability to check-in to events, view maps for Places and unfriend people on the go.
Places now lets you see locations using an integrated Google map, so that you can scope out where your friends have checked into and the surrounding area; handy if you're meant to be meeting your friend at a bar, but ...

Barely one month after an update that brought Latitude and Hotpot closer than ever, Google's updated Maps for Android again to further sweeten the deal.
This time around, Latitude seems to have gotten the most attention, but Places a.k.a. Hotpot hasn't been left entirely out of the mix. For Latitude, Google's added a feature for setting a "home" location, as well as the ability to check into ...

Android users have been able to post Latitude check-ins via the Google Maps app for some time. Now, Google has brought the same functionality to its Latitude app for iOS. Being able to check-in at specific locations gives the app a much more social feel, and it's nice to be able to do more than track your friends' positions on a map.
Google has also delivered a massive internationalization ...

There's a new check-in app in town, but Bizzy isn't just about letting friends know where you are -- it's also about rating businesses where you just completed a purchase.

Foursquare is taking advantage of Super Bowl madness to launch a new feature: promoted events. When the Green Bay Packers and the Pittsburgh Steelers face off this Sunday, anyone who checks in at the game will get a special Super Bowl badge. You don't have to be one of the people who spent hundreds of dollars on tickets to get in on the Foursquare action. Just shout "Go Steelers" or "Go Packers" ...

Google Latitude, Google's location-sharing service, just added the ability to check in at a location. You can now attach place names to your location, rather than just sharing your position on the map. Users of Google Maps for Android 5.1 can take advantage of these new check-ins, which bring Latitude a bit closer to location-based social networks like Foursquare, Gowalla and Facebook Places.

Last week Foursquare rolled out an incredibly important and contemporary new feature: check-in photos. Foursquare is a far cry from being a primary photo-sharing site, however, which is why a quick-thinking developer has made a Web app that automatically forwards your Foursquare photos to Flickr: FlickSquare.
All you need to do is sign into your Foursquare account, connect with FlickSquare, and ...

Proving that we are well and truly ensconced by the 21st century, Foursquare has finally added photos to the check-in experience. We can only begin to imagine the technological mountains Foursquare had to scale in order to implement this much-wanted, but dauntingly-hard-to-implement feature. There's also a brand-spanking-new first-party Foursquare iPhone app.
You can now also comment on ...

We've got check-in apps for locations, media, and even wine, so why not for websites? That's where Meebo comes in with its soon to be released MiniBar. While it's not the first to bring check-ins to websites -- both Badgeville and OneTrueFan already do that -- Meebo has a significant amount of clout within the in-website add-on bar business with its popular Meebo Bar.
The MiniBar will let you ...

With all of the social networking and "check-in" services that are available these days, you might think you've seen it all. But there's one currently untapped, check-in-able experience left and that's media. GetGlue, a free app by AdaptiveBlue, thinks it has that niche covered, and in essence, it's like Foursquare for media. The idea is that every time you watch a TV show or movie, listen to ...
