One feature I still miss when switching between Chrome and Firefox is support for bookmark keywords, which make launching sites from the address bar a breeze. Chrome's Omnibar does a fairly good job of finding what we want to launch from standard input (e.g. gmail), but it would be nice to have straight-up keywords (like gm). Sebastian showed you one method using custom search engines -- but ...

We're big users of right-click context menus, especially in our Web browsers. We also love bookmarklets -- those handy little JavaScript snippets that sit next to our normal bookmarks and provide extension-like functionality. Combine these two things, and you've got SpellBook, a new Google Chrome extension that provides right-click access to all your bookmarklets.
Just install SpellBook and ...

On September 27th, popular cross-browser bookmark and password sync tool Xmarks looked like it was all but done for. The official blog post made things sound pretty grim, but thanks to an outpouring of support from the community, there was renewed hope.
The next day, we reported on the announcement of Xmark's PBS-style pledge drive, asking users to show their support by saying "Yes, we'd pay a ...

Evernote, the popular clipping and note-taking service, has announced the availability of a new bookmarking tool called Site Memory. Unlike existing browser-based Evernote clipping methods (like add-ons and the bookmarklet), Site Memory is a button which site owners and maintainers display directly on their own pages.
As a way to promote Evernote, Site Memory is a great idea -- since it will no ...

Xmarks is an excellent tool for maintaining the same set of bookmarks in all your web browsers -- on all your computers. It works with Firefox, Internet Explorer, and Google Chrome and in addition to your bookmarks they've recently been busily adding tab sync support.

Sebastian and I were chatting about Google Chrome earlier today when I mentioned something that I wanted to be able to do: pull up the new tabbed bookmarks manager when I open a new tab.
Now...I haven't coded a lick in more than a decade, but it looked like this would be easy enough to hack in via an extension. Seb agreed that it looked like a pretty trivial task, and he decided to give it a ...

Earlier this week, the Chromium browser's bookmark manager moved from a separate native app window to a new tab inside browser itself (a la Opera). The streamlined manager has quickly made its way to Chrome, landing today in the developer channel build.
The bookmark manager in-a-tab feels is a much more logic implementation on tabbed browsers, and it's been a feature of Opera for quite some ...

Mac users of Google Chrome finally got a solid bookmark system in Google Chrome...but the dev team isn't stopping there, of course. In the last week or so, several updates have been made to the Chromium source code which will bring a better -- and more Chrome-y -- bookmark manager to the browser.
The new 'tabbed bookmark manager' currently looks like what you see in the screenshot. Rather than ...

It's still a bit rough around the edges at this point, but the new beta bookmarking extension from Delicious is a big improvement over its last offering.
In case you hadn't seen the last version, it was pretty much identical to using Delicious via a bookmarklet -- and not very exciting. The new release, however, is a much more solid effort. Your Delicious bookmarks are now synced to Chrome ...

If you read your news in feed form, you're likely familiar with Google Reader's "star" feature. You can click a star to save a story for later, and use your star list for quick reference. Google News has finally added something similar for those who read their news the old-fashioned way. Starring a story adds it to your "starred" menu, accessible via the sidebar, and causes any updates to appear ...

Delicious, the social bookmarking site arguably started it all, was recently updated with a couple of new features. They've added the ability to display only private or only public bookmarks, and the ability to choose whether you want to show or hide the history of who you've sent bookmarks to. You can also choose whether bookmarks open in the current tab or a new tab.
Delicious has also added a ...

If bookmark menus aren't enough for you, All Customized Links offers yet another tweak to speed your Firefox browsing. A word of warning to privacy fanatics: you must register an account to use this, and your links are remotely hosted (there is no TOS that I could find). While not posting privacy terms isn't cool, your links following you wherever you install this addon is. Adding new links is a ...

If you're anything like us, you probably run across dozens of web pages, news articles, and blog posts every day that look interesting, but which you don't have time to read right away. There are hundreds of ways to bookmark pages for reviewing later. But we find that whether we're using browser bookmarking tools, online services like del.icio.us, or a combination like the Read it Later ...
