While it might not have a huge share of the desktop Web browser market, Opera certainly knows how to score deals with OEMs. Today, Opera announced that it has entered into a partnership with Sony to deliver an embedded browser on TVs and Blu-ray players. As Opera states in its official post, the integration will bring "web applications, widgets, full web browsing and emerging standards such as ...

A while back, VidCoder -- the Windows video disc ripping program -- added support for Blu-ray discs. With Handbrake's engine under the hood, VidCoder offers an easy-to-use interface and simple batch processing of your video files. With the release of version 0.8, there's also now a native 64-bit version for those of you running Windows x64. A number of stability tweaks have also been introduced. ...

VidCoder is a nice, little DVD ripper for Windows -- it provides a simple, streamlined interface, supports encoding presets, and uses Hanbrake's processing engine for the heavy lifting. One feature which was notably absent from the last version we covered was support for Blu-Ray discs. That has been added in version 0.7.0, and VidCoder is now better than ever.
One other nice feature VidCoder ...

Software developers basically have DVD ripping down to a science at this point. No matter what operating system you run, you're only a few clicks away from importing a movie from a DVD to your hard drive. Blu-Ray, on the other hand, is a tougher nut to crack. That's why it's exciting to see a cross-platform app that handles both DVD and Blu-Ray ripping: MakeMKV.
MakeMKV offers one-click ...

Good news everyone! You can now win some (admittedly pretty bad) movies on Blu-ray disc courtesy of Universal. All you have to is become their fan on Facebook and install an app. Yes, like all sweepstake give-aways it costs nothing but a small slice of your soul to enter. But that's a small price to pay: this could finally be your chance to blow the dust of your Blu-ray player and see what all ...

Last year, some of our commenters steered me toward ImgBurn as a Nero alternative, and it's been my CD and DVD recording app of choice ever since. It's an excellent lightweight program, handles just about every kind of disc-related task imaginable, and it's totally free. Version 2.5 boasts a big list of additions, changes, and bugfixes, though the core functionality remains the same. It still ...

There are plenty of free CD/DVD burners for Windows, and to be honest we haven't often been tempted to look beyond CDBurnerXP and InfraRecorder, which both seem to handle pretty much any tasks you can throw at them. But while reading an article about BurnOn over at Life Rocks 2.0, we noticed a link in the comments to StarBurn. And while we might check out BurnOn later, we were kind of blown away ...

There's a cat and mouse game that goes on between those who produce professional videos and those who want to watch those videos on their own terms. Every time the folks behind DVDs, Blu-Ray discs, or HD-DVDs serve up a new DRM scheme, hackers go to work trying to figure out how to circumvent that encryption. You can look at this as a noble or malicious act: either the hackers want to make sure ...

Making backup copies of movies you purchase on HD-DVD and Blu-Ray discs may have just gotten a little easier. Just a few months after members at the Doom9 forums uncovered a way to extract individual volume keys that allow you to decrypt the AACS copy protection for individual movies, it looks like they've found the holy grail: a processing key used on every disc. In other words, ripping a high ...

Roxio Easy Media Creator 9 now supports media for iPod, PSP, cell phones, and Windows Media compatible devices.
