Adobe's just let fly its latest beta of Flash Player bringing it to 10.3 beta 2. The update brings stability increases and bug fixes, as well as all the new features from the beta 1 release earlier this month. Adobe has also brought its AIR runtime up to speed with the latest developments in Flash, releasing Adobe AIR 2.7 beta for your downloading pleasure.

Adobe has just released an update for its Adobe AIR runtime for Android bringing it to version 2.6. The update adds support for Android 3.0 Gingerbread, meaning AIR on tablets like the Motorola Xoom is a go, plus a series of performance improvements.
Highlights include up to 20% faster scrolling, H.264 video decoding at 30FPS, and GPU-accelerated animation or gaming at up to 50FPS. Greater ...

Created by a computer scientist at Adobe, Facebook Desktop does exactly what it says on the tin, for both Windows and Mac PCs. It links into your Facebook account and notifies you of every change to your account -- pokes, messages, friend requests, event invites, etc. -- with a little pop-up toast window on your desktop. The notifications appear in the bottom right of your screen whether you like ...

Adobe announced yesterday that you'll soon be able to make VoIP calls right from Flash Player. A server solution from Adobe called Flash Media Gateway will enable you to make calls to landlines, cell phones, and computers using an SIP gateway. And if you happen to have a webcam (and who doesn't these days), it will even support video chat using H.264.
The interconnection fun doesn't stop there ...

Yesterday's session of the MAX 2010 conference saw the announcement of the latest iteration to AIR, Adobe's desktop runtime for HTML, Ajax, Flex, and (of course) Flash. AIR 2.5 brings greater device support with it, covering smartphones and tablets running BlackBerry Tablet OS, Android and iOS; Windows, OS X and Linux on the desktop; and TVs, with Samsung the first to jump on-board the AIR ...

Adobe is starting to talk up the upcoming Air 2.5 for Android, which has added so many new features that the FlashMobileBlog says it's now at feature parity with the desktop version of the Flash Platform. What does that mean for users? Well, Air for Android can now use the camera and microphone, which means ...

The Web 2.0 Expo is now well and truly underway and the crown jewel of the show -- at least so far -- is an Android tablet prototype running Adobe Flash and AIR 'flawlessly'. If you want to get stuck right in, there are a couple of short videos after the break.
No one seems to know the spec of the prototype tablet, so for all we know there might be some crazy CPU inside with gigs of RAM, but it ...

Not every extension in your Google Chrome install has to make you more productive, safer, or facilitate using your favorite websites. Suppose you want a way to unwind always at your fingertips? Say, like an air hockey game in your browser actions area?
As luck would have it, there's one in the Extension Gallery now! Air Hockey features three difficulty levels and it's good, mindless fun right ...

I have a confession to make: I use a really, really, simple Nokia cell phone. It's not "smart" by any means. I've been badly burned by a Windows Mobile 6 device, and ever since then I've been sitting on the sidelines of the burgeoning smartphone market, and wondering how the chips are going to fall, in terms of operating systems.
Just off the top of my mind, I can quickly list iPhone OS, ...

Last year, I raved about Bloom, an iPhone app from ambient music pioneer Brian Eno. Now Eno and the team behind Bloom have created Air [app store link]. Eno says the app is like an endless version of his famous composition "Music for Airports." Air lets users create a complex, gradually shifting composition using vocal and piano samples. There are three different listen modes - each one its own ...

Seesmic, a cross-platform social networking client that connects with Twitter and Facebook, just released a new version, 0.6, that adds the ability to read, manage, like and comment on Facebook Pages. It's nice that Seesmic keeps adding more features, but it's already a bit of a bloated memory hog, and I hope it trims down a bit before it hits version 1.0. It gobbled up nearly 200mb of ram on my ...

Sometimes it seems that we're so plugged in to Twitter here @downloadsquad -- rather, at Download Squad -- that we don't even know FriendFeed exists. Not true! In fact, I noticed that FriendFeed just released an official desktop notifier, built on Adobe AIR. It's pretty rough so far, but a lot of users are commenting with feature requests and improvements. The main issue people have with the ...

MiniTask is a basic cross-platform organization app built on Adobe Air. The learning curve on this app is basically nil, and you'll soon be adding, checking off, and setting alarms for to-do items with ease. There aren't a ton of features, so it's not the greatest for the completely neurotic among us, but if you just need a simple, unfussy to-do list, give it a look. Let's a take a quick look at ...

Adobe just added new video content to its AIR-based Media Player, but it all pretty much sucks in one form or another. The Adobe Media Player is a slick media browser that can play and subscribe to videos from the web, and it also provides somewhat high-resolution content from Adobe's media partners such as MTVN and Comedy Central. Despite the fact that the player is very visually appealing and ...

It may seem illogical to tie Meebo to a desktop app, but that's exactly what's going on here. Meebone uses Adobe AIR to bring Meebo's services to your desktop through a dedicated app, but it's still in beta. So if you're down to try it, keep in mind that you'll probably encounter some problems... just like we did. When attempting to login to AIM, Meebone was confused by a space in one of our ...
