HP is holding a big webOS shindig tomorrow, and we're hoping that means the release of webOS 2 for the original Pre, Pre Plus and Pixi is imminent. Why? Because it means all webOS users will get to enjoy some slick, new apps like Crosstalk.
Designed for the new OS, Crosstalk enables users to share files from their webOS devices with nearby friends (who also happen to be using a webOS 2 device). ...

The public download for Chevron WP7 -- the jailbreak/sideloading tool for Windows Phone 7 devices -- didn't remain up for long. After initial discussions with Microsoft and a revelation that Redmond was OK with "official homebrew development," the Chevron team decided to take the app offline. It's still floating around, of course, and still being used by developers -- though that may soon change. ...

Seems like it's PlayStation morning! Just two days after the release of a PlayStation 3 jailbreak for firmware version 3.55, Sony is suing the creators -- one of which is none other than Geohot (pictured right), of iPhone limera1n jailbreak infamy. Both the root keys that made the jailbreak possible, and the jailbreak itself, have been removed from Geohot's website, pending a decision from the ...

Not being able to set your own custom ringtones in Windows Phone 7 is one of the fledgling OS' confusing little design choices. While custom tones are rumored to be part of the January WP7 update, that's just a rumor for the moment -- and you might want to set Heartbreak Armageddon as your ringer right now.
Chris Walshie -- part of the team behind the now-vanished Chevron WP7 unlocker -- has ...

In a rather unprecedented (but not unexpected) show of graciousness, the developers of ChevronWP7 have decided to cease all development of the tool. It has also been pulled from the site -- you can no longer download it.
The developers talked with Brandon Watson, Director of Windows Phone 7 Developer Experience, and emerged with the conclusion that Microsoft is amenable to official homebrew ...

It seems, thanks to one of Samsung's recent additions to the Windows Phone 7 Marketplace, that a jailbreak of Microsoft's latest mobile platform might come a lot sooner than anticipated.
In a high-tech plot twist that even mother could've predicted, it turns out that Windows Phone 7 can run native code! Until today, it was thought that WP7 apps could only be written in Silverlight, an ...

One thing I love about my Palm Pre is that I'm able to run homebrew apps without performing any firmware surgery on it. Thanks to Preware (et al) the apps are easy to find, easy to install, and a select few, like Internalz, have become some of my most-used.
I'm not the only one who seems to like homebrew apps. HP, it turns out, thinks they're pretty cool, too. They agree with a recent post from ...

If you've used a Palm Pre, you're probably wondering just what's possible with the webOS developer SDK. Over the last few updates, it would appear that Palm are really working to bump the number of technologies available for games -- and the homebrew community has been busy looking at the updates to figure out what's available.
Over the Christmas break, the folks at Pre Central noticed that ...

The Playstation Portable is a jack of all trades. It plays music, videos, browses the Internet, and plays games. However, for an increasing number of people, this still isn't enough. With its powerful dual-processor configuration and Memory Stick Pro Duo slot, the PSP is a pocket powerhouse, capable of much ...

Hacking game consoles to run homebrew code is all the rage these days, but until recently, Wii owners were only able to join the fun with software that ran in Gamecube mode, which was a serious limitation. No longer! At the 24th Annual Chaos Communication Congress, a homebrew developer presented a hacked Wii running native code in Wii mode. By analyzing memory dumps from a modified Wii, they ...

Mr. Stuff got tired of looking for decent homebrewing software and decided to write his own. BeerMeister is an all-in-one tool for making the perfect homebrew. It got a collection of pre-made recipe templates (for bock, ale, etc.), a log book, and XML recipe exporter. Could you roll your own version with Filemaker or Excel? Perhaps. But first you'd have to sober up, wouldn't you? Right now it's ...
