Hey, Twitter fans! It's another Twitter Tuesday, and there's one piece of Twitter news that's on everybody's mind: ads are here! Some folks see in-stream advertising as the end of Twitter as we know it, and we're about to find out whether that's true. Twitter's much-discussed Promoted Tweets -- paid Twitter ads that will be injected directly into your Twitter stream -- have started to roll out. ...

After a rather epic and pregnant pause, the developers of Adium have finally squeezed out the next major version release of the best open-source Mac chat client in town: Adium 1.4.
The main feature additions are Twitter and IRC support, but the contact list has also been overhauled to support contacts in multiple groups and instant searching. There's also a new version of libpurple under the ...

My favorite chat client for OS X just keeps getting better. Adium 1.3.4. has been released, and it offers some major performance improvements, especially where Facebook Chat is concerned. It's also likely the last Adium release that will work on OS X 10.4 Tiger. As nice as it is to get stable updates to Adium, 1.3.4 is overshadowed by the release of 1.4 beta, which includes support for Twitter ...

Adium, the popular multi-protocol chat app for OS X, announced a while back that version 1.4 will support using Twitter via IM. If you don't want to wait for 1.4, you can turn on Twitter in Adium using the TwitterIM plugin. It lets you add your Twitter account to Adium, just like an account from any other service, and you can use it to post to Twitter and reply to other people's messages. ...

What a joy to see the two apps I have open all day coming together! I'm an IM and Twitter junkie, and Twitter hasn't had IM support in some time. Fortunately, the developers behind my IM client of choice, Adium, are working to put together their own version of a Twitter IM service. Your Twitter contacts would show up in your Adium list, and you can follow, unfollow and presumably group them from ...

I absolutely love the popular Mac multi-chat app Adium. Not only does it support a large number of messaging protocols -- including Facebook Chat in the latest version -- it's insanely customizable. In Adium, you can change the look of everything from your contact list to your message style to your dock icon. There's an extensive library of user-created styles at AdiumXtras.com, but they're not ...

Pidgin doesn't officially support Facebook Chat (yet?), but it can be customized with useful add-ons like the new Facebook Chat plug-in. Once installed, the plug-in allows Pidgin to log-in to a Facebook account, pull the buddy-list, and send/receive messages. Adium, arguably Pidgin's counterpart on Mac, also received support for Facebook Chat in the recent 1.3 beta release, though, the feature is ...

Facebook has put out their chat service, Google has Google chat. There's no desktop app for Facebook, but there is one for Google chat. Confusing, and annoying. It's also confusing and annoying to have to use those services in separate programs or multiple tabs in a web browser. AIM is probably the most popular IM service known to man and woman, iChat for Mac...these are both desktop experiences. ...

Your co-workers use MSN Messenger, your family is partial to AOL Instant Messenger, and your friends use Google Talk. There are plenty of utilities that let you keep in touch with all of your contacts regardless of the IM platform they're using. But while we love Digsby, Trillian, Pidgin, and Adium most of the time, there are a few features missing from those apps:
Support for voice and video ...

![Facebook chat coming soon, privacy controls launch today]()
Facebook is adding new privacy controls today which will give you more control over your interactions with people in your friend lists. For example, you can share photo albums or applications with your professional contacts while hiding away the good stuff for closer friends. The company also confirmed plans to launch a web-based instant messenger service that will let you communicate with other ...

Adium, the premier freeware multi-protocol Macintosh IM client, has reached version 1.2. Just after releasing a beta version right before Christmas, Adium is no longer a "beta" status product. Major new features include an improved menubar item, account management features, and many many bugfixes. One feature we took notice of off the bat was in the menubar, when you miss a message, the Adium ...

It used to be that a USB thumb drive was used mainly for transporting files to and from computers. Now, however, more people are using thumb drives to house portable applications. When you sit down at a computer that doesn't have Firefox, for example, and you're simply unwilling to double-click that Internet Explorer icon, just pop in your thumb drive, double-click your portable Firefox ...

Adium, the multi-protocol, open source, Instant Message client for Mac OS X has today reached version 1.1. Whilst the team behind the project have been releasing regular updates to the client, this particular update is of note due to its much longer development period (according to the Adium blog, version 1.1 has been a year in the making). So what's new? Firstly there'sa dose of "tastier tabs". ...

Adium is a terrific free instant messaging client for Mac OS X that connects you to AIM, Jabber, GTalk, Yahoo, MSN and more all at once. The application is feature-packed as it is but, like so many other applications these days, users have developed plug-ins to make it even better. The complete list has been conveniently compiled in one place, but here's five cool ones to get you started: ...
