Android 3.0 Honeycomb, the OS that runs on the recently-released Motorola Xoom, will not bond with Mac OS X unless you install a helper program on your PC first.
The program, which is aptly named Android File Transfer, provides third-party Media Transfer Protcol (MTP) support, which Mac OS X doesn't natively provide. MTP started off as a Windows Media Player technology, which is probably why ...

9to5 Mac has uncovered another cool feature in OS X Lion: Apple's back up tool, Time Machine, will support backups to an internal hard drive.
Dubbed 'Local Snapshots,' it sounds like it will be very similar to Versions, another new feature in OS X Lion that keeps track of changes to documents, and lets you revert to older versions. Local Snapshots, on the other hand, will take a snapshot of ...

After originally reporting on the introduction of WebKit2 back in April 2010, it looks like it will finally be rolled out with OS X Lion, in a new version of the Safari Web browser.
WebKit2, rather than being a whole new rendering engine, is a layer around WebKit that adds more stability, security and speed -- not entirely unlike the Google Chrome sandbox, which is also strapped onto a version ...

Right down at the bottom of the Mac OS X Lion page on the Apple website is a tidbit that we should probably pay more attention to: OS X Lion will come with Lion Server built-in. It will be included on the same disc -- it will come pre-installed with every Mac that Apple sells. You will get all of the juicy Server features for free.
Now, this isn't to say that Lion Server has an overwhelming ...

Sparrow, the slick-looking Mac email client that rocked the Mac App Store's sales charts earlier this month, isn't for everyone. But how do you know if it's for you without shelling out the $10 price of admission? That's where Sparrow Lite comes in.
Sparrow Lite is a free, ad-supported version of Sparrow that's designed to give you a feel for the app's unique approach to email. It's practically ...

Yesterday, Apple released the developer preview of Mac OS X Lion, the first major update to OS X since August 2009. Two major things have uprooted the computing world since then: the launch of Windows 7 in October 2009, and the iPad in 2010.
It's no surprise, then, that OS X Lion looks like the lovechild of Windows 7 and iOS. White box-thumping purists will claim, somehow, that this is ...

Apple's on a charge today and has just released the Mac OS X Lion developer preview via the Mac App Store. The good news is it's full of fancy new features, including Launchpad, an app launcher that displays all of your Mac apps in one easy to use screen; Mission Control, a unification of Expose, Dashboard, Spaces, and full screen apps; and some new multi-touch gestures. The bad news is that ...

Apple has just released FaceTime for OS X onto the Mac App Store. The app will take advantage of the 'built-in FaceTime HD camera' or any other iSight-equipped Intel Mac, to bring you Mac-to-Mac and Mac-to-iPhone 4 (or latest generation iPod touch) video calling over Wi-Fi. It supports up to 720p video for those soon to be released Macs sporting fancy new FaceTime HD cameras, or standard VGA ...

Not only is Firefox 4 for Mobile beta 5 ready to test on your Android or Maemo phone, but you can also download and run the browser on your Windows, Mac or Linux PC.
The new beta brings a slew of fixes and spit-shines, and for the first time it almost feels finished -- just in time, considering the final release is due in the next week or two. There are now over 100 mobile add-ons -- but, of ...

Apple's Steve Jobs has said in recent emails that Final Cut Pro, Apple's venerable video editing app, will be getting an "awesome" update for which we should all "buckle up," but that update could be coming sooner than we thought. Sources have told TechCrunch that Apple is now in the final stages of "the biggest overhaul to Final Cut Pro since the original version was created over 10 years ...

If there's one single thing that truly sets Chrome apart from its herd of rivals, it's the Omnibar. Chrome users already know and love this feature, but Google's just made it possible for developers to create extensions that will push it even farther ahead of the competition by providing an API for it. Now, there are already huge numbers of extensions available for Chrome -- many of which we here ...

As the release of Mac OS X 10.7 Lion gets closer and closer, rumors are starting to appear about what functionality Apple will add to the new version of its operating system. Today's rumor is based on an Apple patent, and it involves secure online storage.
Apple has been rumored to go all in with cloud services for many years, yet for some reason Mobile Me is all we've got so far. But if ...

Google's Chrome beta update brings with it a slew of goodies for the adventurous users who prefer slightly more cutting-edge features over tried-and-true stability. Version 10.0.648.82 hit the beta channel earlier today, and it affected just about every piece of the browser, from the settings interface to the rendering engine.
First and foremost, the already-impressive V8 "Crankshaft" ...

Pixelfari is unlike any other Mac browser on the market: it renders every webpage in glorious 8-Bit. Pixel-fonts are the default, and the icons have all been 8-bitified. Every image Pixelfari loads gets pixelated, too. It's a bit jarring for an everyday browsing experience and it doesn't exactly support contemporary web standards, but Pixelfari is a fun novelty. Oh, and this shouldn't surprise ...

Unveiled back in October of 2010, Microsoft's Windows Phone 7 Connector for Mac is now available for download from the Mac App Store. Amazingly, visiting that link in your Web browser won't force a divide by zero error.
While we still find Windows Phone 7 and OS X to be strange bedfellows, those of you who need to sync your photos, music, videos, and podcasts from iTunes will find the ...
