Flashback! Darryl Pandy Gets Down to 'Love Can't Turn Around' (Urlesque)

Aug 16th 2010 10:49AM Quite possibly one of the funniest lines ever written in an article describing flash-back hilarity on YouTube..."It's Darryl Pandy. And the first thing he's going to prove to you, all the way from 1986, is that someone in the world manufactures giant green sequined batwing blouses for grown men."

Thank you for the Monday morning laughs and for sticking me with wondering for the rest of the day "Where is Darryl Pandy now?" (and "Do they still make those shirts??")

Little-Known Victims of Nigerian Internet Scams (BloggingStocks)

Feb 22nd 2010 11:41AM What a terribly tragic story. My great-grandmother suffered with Alzheimer's for over 10 years, and we watched her degenerate to the point of being bed-ridden, mute, and locked in a fetal position. The ravages to a family of dementia-related illnesses can be overwhelming. We never put her in a nursing home, but kept her home and took care of her with the aid of daily nurses, who stopped by 2-3x's a day, so we sat front row as she deteriorated and became a shell of her former self.

I cannot even imagine what would have happened had she had Internet access (we realized she wasn't thinking right and was acting strangely when my great-grandfather died in 1988), because her behavior was always alarming and erratic (burning all of her important papers and documents, including birth certificates, her marriage license, driver's license, etc, "painting" furniture in the house with shoe polish, feeding her cat cereal and Coke rather than food and water). It would be extremely easy for someone not in their right mind to be taken in by these scams, and they come through your inbox on a daily basis.

Thank you for writing about this family and their misfortune; perhaps it will save others from having the same thing happen to them.

Outrage over Air New Zealand advert -- right or wrong? (Asylum.co.uk)

Jan 25th 2010 9:21PM As a 32 year-old female and, I would like to add, a rape victim, I don't find the advert at all degrading or in any way, shape, or form offensive to rape victims. In fact, I found the commercial humorous and to be a well-done satire.

While male (or any) rape victims are nothing to be laughed at, this advertisement isn't doing anything of the sort. There's no indication here that the "young men" in question were raped or forced to do anything beyond listening to music they might find distasteful.

While the "cougar" may have been a bit aggressive at the bar, I don't see how anyone can take that as an indication that the object of her lust was raped once she got him home. Since it would be virtually impossible for a woman of any age to literally "drag" an unwilling man all the way back to her flat, the correlation to rape here is lost on me. Further, the ad doesn't specifically say they sleep together; perhaps all they did was listen to Enya.

Just kidding, of course - yes, I know the whole idea of the "cougar" is that the older woman is taking the younger man into her bed; yes, I'm fully aware that the advert was - overall - indicating that sex did take place. Still. There is nothing here to indicate rape and I find it offensive that these tightly-wound women's rights groups and overly-sensitive male rape victims are making a mountain out of a molehill and giving those of us with a sense of humor a bad name. Lighten up, people; a good laugh would likely do you well.

Julie Amero sentencing postponed, Norwich "expert" speaks (Download Squad)

May 24th 2007 3:41PM As a professional i.t. tech with over seven years experience, I must admit I am appalled that Julie Amero is being convicted of a "crime" in this case. What happened was unfortunate but in *no way* unfathomable.

It sounds as if Lousbury is no more than a pseudo-geek spewing out big-sounding words to make it sound as if he knows what he's talking about. It is obvious to anyone with a smidgen of computer knowledge that he does not.

I will be watching this, hoping to see some justice done for poor Ms. Amero.
