I actually felt that the time train being destroyed was the weakest of the ideas. Traveling through time to get back the pieces of a broken time machine sounds like a waste of the perfectly good time machine you're riding in.
So they're meeting up with Lorraine the day before Marty is born, the biggest trouble would be Lorraine and George remembering Marty as Calvin Klein, because there is no way the game will be about accidentally causing Marty to cease to exist at that stage of life.
My preference would be the 1938 scenario, because Doc Brown reminiscing about his life while hiding from young Doc Brown is grounds for comic gold.
