Windows Explorer replacements abound (Download Squad)

May 13th 2007 11:18PM I've tried at least half of these (new file managers pop up all the time) and I have yet to find anything as jaw-droppingly amazing as Directory Opus. Especially the newest one, which creams Vista's Explorer. (Bonus: It seems to get rid of that horrible slowdown when copying or moving--well, anything.)

Oblivion's incomplete physics (Joystiq)

Apr 20th 2006 10:19AM I feel like I may be the only red blooded male that notice the physics in Dead Or Alive: Extreme Beach Volleyball. The sweet, D-cup, succulent... erm, sand physics. When you started playing a match the sand was flat, with those tiny little dunes. But it actually blew and left footsteps where your characters ran around.
There were similar effects in the new DOAs, but it was lacking the uh... gameplay assets.
While it was only a tiny little touch it really adds to the game, because it makes everything feel much more "real" than just having fancy high poly graphics or light blooms, or pixel shaders upon pixel shaders.

Pizza Chain Report Card (Slashfood)

Sep 26th 2005 11:07AM As a fairly regular Papa John's eater I definetly have to recommend 'em. Esepcially for their more gourmet options, such as the Spinach and Chicken Alfredo (my personsal favorite) or the new Chicken Bacon Ranch. I'm no poet, and it's been a little while since I've had one, so I won't really review it, but if you pass by a Papa Johns soon you should really stop and pick one up.

Ask Download Squad: How do you IM? (Download Squad)

Sep 3rd 2005 10:46PM I still can't quite find the right IM client for me. I love Gaim, but it doesn't seem to work quite right on my PC (the buddy list is strangely unresponsive) and lacks a bit of the customization element. I tend to us Trillian, even if the skinning is limiting (I'd love just using my Windows graphics) but it doesn't group windows right, and occasionally seems to not recognize its own plugins. I also like Miranda, since it gives me insane flexibility (such as aliasing people that aren't on my buddy list, a killer feature for me) and the most incredible skinning abilities, blending into my desktop with an incredible minimalistic look. But uh... it doesn't support the AIM protocol. And of course the learning curve feels like mount Everest. I got Google Talk, and loved the interface but of course it still isn't widely used. I also keep Skype around, since I just love the "Skype Me" mode and I just prefer the audio quality when I do recordings. As soon as one of them (Gaim, Trill, Miranda) gets the tiny missing feature they each have then I'll permanently swap.
