Feb 17th 2011 10:09PM Meh, until Google's worked out the Google App users migration issue, I'll pass. Upgrades to features are meaningless if "[I] have no subscriptions" (my computer says otherwise).
Dec 16th 2010 9:03AM I feel compelled to give you a golf clap for your music selection, though John the Fisherman is a better song.
Jul 27th 2010 12:13AM Funny how "Statute of Limitations" and "S#!T Outta Luck" are both SOL.NY has a 6 year statute of limitations to bring a claim based on a contract dispute. The complaint even specifies:Since April 28, 2003, [Ceglia] has complied with the terms and conditions of the contract and [Zuckerberg] has failed to similarly comply with the terms of the contract to the detriment of [Ceglia].His claim expired April, 28, 2009. This is Civil Procedure 101 people.
Feb 2nd 2010 9:25PM My one complaint about ManicTime (which I LOVE) is I'd like a way to import data/see multiple computers on one machine. I have it running on my work computer, on my laptop for when I go onsite to a client, and when I'm home. I wish I could have one comprehensive view of what I was doing at any given time. That said, it is free and it works amazingly well for what it does. -p-
Feb 2nd 2010 4:06AM Because the company that owns the copyright licensed the broadcast rights to the station you're recording it from. They didn't license it to be torrent'ed by people. Copyright gives the owner the legal RIGHT to control how COPYs are made (see what I did there?) and distributed. Using torrents is an end run around their control, which is why the "but they're not losing money because I wouldn't buy it" argument is irrelevant - the damage is in the loss of control, not in the loss of money and why it's ok to get it from one source and not another.
Oct 26th 2009 12:21AM Uh, I think the point is that video games are ONE of the major causes of ADD, not THE cause of ADD. Because so many people did play games as a kid, they developed ADD whereas they would not have, but for the video games.Just because you developed ADD without being a gamer as a kid does not debunk their theory.
Oct 22nd 2009 2:41AM Welcome to the DLS de-douchifier-9000! Please input the article you wish to de-douche.... Thank you!Working.... *bleep bloop*.... working ..... *blop bleep bleep*Thank you for using the DLS de-douchifier-9000. Please see your de-douched article below. ----------------------------------------------------------------According to a report by Retrevo, one in three people under thirty-five are likely to tweet or use facebook after sex. Of that group, iPhone users are three times more likely to do so than those with blackberries. Oddly - or not so oddly depending on your viewpoint - men are twice as likely as women to take part in this godawful practice.I guess we should just be grateful that the report focused on what happens after rather than during... but I bet some iPhoners do that too.----------------------------------------------------------------Seriously, the "article" was 2/5 content and 3/5 iPhone user bashing. WTF? I come to DLS because it's supposed to be informative. This drivel is not. And Grant, being a dick to your readers when they call you out for being a dick? Really? REALLY? Why would an advertiser pay for ads on this site - and therefore, I assume, your salary - when you drive away the eyeballs by being an ass?
Oct 9th 2009 8:10PM How about a link to the patent? I mean, since everyone is up in arms about it, shouldn't we see what the claims say (rather than a layman's summary)? Not defending the trolls (E.D. Tex sucks), but I'd still like to have an intelligent discussion about the scope of the patent instead of the torches and pitchforks. I can see that stuff on slashdot.-p-
Aug 10th 2009 8:30PM Er, no offense, but I agree with the OP. I had trouble following the article.I'm with the author up until (rewritten for clarity): The move should mean improved versions of the real-time status and conversation features that Facebook was already moving toward. But that's not all Facebook bought; it's also getting most of FriendFeed's users.[Then I get lost]It's not as if social media, um, d-bags, didn't know Facebook existed. [OK, if you're on FriendFeed, you're probably on FB, though "d-bag" is out of left field] Au contraire, they've been all over it for at least a year, begging people to become fans of their clients. [Wait, who is begging whom to become fans of what clients? I gather from later sentences that there are people on FriendFeed or FB that are trying to get FB users to be "fans" of the FB/FF user's client? What clients are you talking about? You haven't established that anyone is being hired to sit on FB/FF all day to troll for followers/fans. If that is even what you are saying.]College students, however, are about to find out that social media jobs exist, and are one of the best rackets going. Wait, you mean I can bother people online, using networks I was already signed up to anyway, and get paid for it? When do I start?[Again, I'm not clear here based on what came before. I guess there are people with social media jobs, and you refer to these people as d-bags. Then there is the component of your story that implies there are numerous jobs out there for people to troll social networking sites looking for followers/fans, and soon, college graduates will stumble upon these jobs.]Social media isn't going away any time soon, and it has a lot of upside, but it also has a lot of our attention. It's one of the few places marketers can still get eyeballs, and members of the first generation that really grew up with it are about to enter the workforce and start selling things to one another. Maybe it was inevitable -- and maybe it will burn out after a while, to make room for new models based on new technology -- but I'm willing to bet we'll look back and point to the time FriendFeed met Facebook as the moment it really started to accelerate.[Ahh - this was good. Good intro, good development, good conclusion.]
