Windows XP goes bye bye (Download Squad)

Jul 2nd 2008 6:21AM Personally I switched to Ubuntu when the latest release came out. I've tried Vista a number of times and its just too clunky. That said, I tried XP again recently and found it to be clunky too. I think I'm too used to Gnome-Do, Compiz, Nautilus (only some features as it can suck). And since most of my apps are web based I don't miss the application support and my paid subscription to Crossover Office sorts out the MS Office need. Each to his own, but Vista pushed me to Ubuntu and I couldn't be happier.

eReader Pro for Palm and Windows Mobile is now free (Download Squad)

Feb 19th 2008 3:43AM I was always a supporter of ereader.com and I bought a lot of titles and the pro reader for my palm. Now that I have a decent S60 v3 cellphone I thought that's great, I can read some of my recent books on my phone. But nope there's no S60 v3 reader and it doesn't look like there will be. This clearly made me realise the stupidity of buying ebooks. Eventually your "reader" will be obsolete and all those books you bought will be useless. I love ebooks, but NEVER again will I buy a DRM'ed book. So thanks for the free pro reader, but I won't be buying any books from you ereader.com.....

Pandora closes door for most non US customers (Download Squad)

May 3rd 2007 4:49PM ---> Start well worn rant ---->

When is a workable model going to be provided for this mess? I live in South Africa and due to "regional" licensing agreements I can't buy music from iTunes, can't ship certain items from Amazon and have no viable digital option for international content EXCEPT BitTorrent (the PirateBay etc. type). Yes I could order it and ship it and wait 3-4 weeks, but why? I don't even want the physical disc. I know this extends elsewhere with Japanese console games in the US as just one example. Please - whoever ultimately owns the content - let me buy and listen to digital copies of media wherever I am. I want to give you my money. I really do. But you don't seem to want it.
