Feb 26th 2008 1:17PM freefall, thats a good point and the cronjob is more reliable. Problem is this:

you have the cronjob running at 0200 and 1400. What if you lose your phone at 1500? By the time it reports in at 0200 it could be who knows where.

Thats one of the reasons the deamon works as I have it set to run every 30 seconds. And with erica's help I'm close to getting it to run even on standby over edge!
