NeoDigits' region-free HELIOS HVD2085 does HD-upscaling on the cheap (Engadget)
Mar 31st 2006 1:39PM NeoDigits (aka NeuNeo) is a pretty good company. But they seem small. I have purchased two of thier DVD players and loved them both. The upscaling is great quality.
I chose them because they are 1 of very very few companies that still do 1080i over component (rca style) cables. There are alot of upscaling DVD players out there that are cheap in price...but do not support that feature.
My TV and video projector do not have DVI or HDMI currently so I found this for my uses. It is a good product.
Apple intros $99 leather iPod case (Engadget)
Feb 28th 2006 2:48PM How about they work on creating a product that doesnt scratch spontaneously when you take it out of the packaging, instead of this extremely overpriced POS.
What else is new...apple is good at accomplishments though...like sucking ass for example.
Microsoft ditching Media Player for Mac? (Download Squad)
Jan 12th 2006 2:59PM I would be willing to bet that the 5 year pact that Microsoft made with Apple is a tactic to keep customers satisfied in the near term so they can keep advancing their own agenda for the long term.
I see it like MS has their hands in so many 'future technology' cookie jars that they need to keep the current public happy by getting them access to hardware like the MacBook because they dont have time to think about current technology appeal.
For example, the Motorola DVR Cable Boxes with MS Software, the SA IPTV boxes with MS Software, the Xbox360 integrating with other components to bring video conferencing to any home who owns one, HD-DVD/Bluray, etc. Mobile Phone software bringing your office to your pocket, and on and on...
Then in 5 years they can drop all alliances with Apple and say "Hey, guess what Apple...We own the living room, the most used OS with the most popular Office Suite, worldwide video phone systems, cell phones / the new generation of movies/TV/Games...and all you have is an ipod and an OS without a desired Office suite...Good luck with that!".
All of these features were showed to me live at this years CES and prior. MS is way ahead of the game if all Apple has to show is the Intel based version of thier OS on hardware that's at a high price.

1st Clock Light - Free file of the day (Download Squad)
Sep 1st 2005 3:27PM This is only somewhat true. The clock in WindowsXP WILL display the date and current day name if you drag the height to double size...which I use by default. I tend to run alot of programs at once and access them too frequently to open and close them constantly. I can understand and see the annoyance in single height mode, but I personally think single height mode is pointless in itself and double height should be standard. When you first try double height its incredibly annoying, but 2-3 days into using it and you wont wanna go back. Give it a shot! I should also mention that hovering over the clock in single height will display the date details in tooltip. Hope this helps someone!
