Google bids $900 million for Nortel's patents to protect against litigation trolls (Download Squad)

Apr 4th 2011 6:17PM We desperately need patent law reform. Having "first to file" like most of the rest of the world would eliminate many lawsuits. And having a "must implement" requirement would put patent trolls out of business.

Spam Clock illustrates the problem of link relevancy for Google, Bing, and other search engines (Download Squad)

Jan 10th 2011 12:27PM @ Sebastian Anthony.... Seems like the gauntlet has been thrown down and picked up. What is the science behind this and how accurate is it? We see way too many baloney made up numbers and stats these days.... Give us a reason to buy this article...

Convert is a simple, versatile free unit converter for Windows (Download Squad)

Apr 22nd 2010 8:16PM Boris you're not ecstatic about this??? Personally, as an engineer I love this program and the simple UI. It appeals to me 'aesthetically'.

Screenshot tour: GMapCatcher lets you use Google Maps offline (Download Squad)

Apr 21st 2010 1:03PM It doesn't seem to let you search for anything even a street or town. It's basically a photo of the map from Yahoo, Google etc. It's an interesting idea but from a practical standpoint if you have no internet connection a paper map would be more useful

Apr 9th 2010 6:57PM so what they're saying is that I should torrent their movies instead....

Only seven percent of Americans would pay for online news (Download Squad)

Mar 17th 2010 4:38PM What do you mean? People are paying right now or there wouldn't be content. It's simply an indirect payment methodology. These type of polls are comically meaningless.

Would I pay directly for the content I'm getting currently? Of course not... look at all those crappy ads. Would I pay $100 per day if the ads were gone? Of course not. Would I pay $.01 per day if the ads were gone but I had to mail in a check. Of course not. Would I pay $.02 per day if the ads were gone and payments were convenient? Hmmm maybe. Would I pay $.02 per day if the ads were gone and only paid for days that I actually logged on? You've got my attention. Show me how it works...

137 years of Popular Science Magazine now online (Download Squad)

Mar 8th 2010 4:29PM Terrible interface. Why not let me browse by issue or year or frankly anything. Way too much Google not enough PopSci.

Get rich quick by extorting university student pirates! (Download Squad)

Feb 9th 2010 2:56PM They should have used the pic on the UofG site now. It looks like a pic from some "don't sexually harass fellow employees" handbook. Creepy bald guy with his cupped hands out in the 'you got a pair...' gesture. And the woman in the pic looks like she just swallowed her gum.

Adobe wants Flash on the iPad, but Apple customers don't (Download Squad)

Jan 29th 2010 7:35PM Flash doesn't suck... the way people use it sucks. It was a good idea that was turned into the annoying little barking dog of the internet by lazy and stupid web designers. Any flash that plays automatically when you load a website is simply wrong. No other way to state it. If the user isn't controlling it then it's a nuisance.

'Five minutes of silence for Haiti' goes viral on Facebook... and fails on so many levels (Download Squad)

Jan 19th 2010 5:30PM Now I feel really insecure about my own personal ass-thumping.
