Food Porn: The ultimate cream-filled donut (Slashfood)

Mar 4th 2007 12:09AM Yes, I was indeed stopped in my tracks when I saw this donut at Le Pain Quotidien on Melrose! Unfortunately mine was also kind of stale. Yes, it was pretty good (and I'm sure I'll have another when I go back next) but when something looks this good it's hard for the taste to live up to expectations!

Food and Relationships: Would you change your eating habits to impress? (Slashfood)

Feb 10th 2007 12:52PM My mom has always hated tomatoes (a trait she passed on to me). She said she knew she was going to marry my dad when she found herself eating an heirloom tomato salad during dinner with his family. This definitely wasn't a lasting change. I'm don't think we've ever had a raw tomato in the house in my lifetime.

It lives! The post-rinse cycle iPod (TUAW.com)

Feb 9th 2007 2:09PM My 1st-gen shuffle had a fatal encounter with a washing machine. They don't seem to do well with moisture. Even getting my replacement shuffle a bit sweaty causes it to act funky until it dries out.

What did you buy yesterday? (Download Squad)

Nov 25th 2006 7:21PM I picked up a 42" Panasonic plasma TV at Best Buy yesterday, to use of course as a TV but also for my Mac Mini. I'm really coveting a tablet PC right now, like the new Fujitsu 5112, but the prices are pretty high. As for software, it's hard for me to get psyched about anything but Leopard and Vista.

Complaints over Comcast PVRs roll in (PVR Wire)

Nov 19th 2006 10:26AM I'm a former TiVo user and because of a few annoyances (that now seem so minor!) I switched to a Comcast box about a year ago. I've had all of the problems mentioned here except for the freezing when switching channels-- though my box often just refuses to change channels at all. The recent software update increased responsiveness and I haven't had a problem with getting stuck in FF since the update. I'm still holding out hope that we'll get TiVo software someday, though. The price tags on the series 3 TiVos is ridiculous and pretty much means I'm stuck with Comcast at this point.

Software every college student needs (TUAW.com)

Aug 21st 2006 6:02PM I get many apps for free from school (Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Mathematica, Acrobat, etc.) but they will only work on campus... which makes a VPN client a must-have. Also missing is EndNote or a comparable piece of bibliography software. No more hassles with writing and formatting references by hand!

Google Notifier for Mac released (formerly Gmail Notifier) (TUAW.com)

Aug 20th 2006 2:09PM I'm having the repeated login issue as well. I assumed it was because I have no gMail account, even though I'd disabled gMail notifications, but seeing the other comments I'm not so sure.

Sunday Survey: iPod FM transmitters - yea or nay? (TUAW.com)

Aug 6th 2006 12:08PM A tape adapter is definitely the best choice, if you have the option. Unfortunately, in my crappy Honda Civic, I don't. If you do have to go the FM transmitter route and you're using a full-sized iPod or a Nano, get a transmitter that plugs into the bottom of the iPod, not the headphone jack. That will give a clearer signal. I have one that plugs into my cigarette lighter, which is handy because it doesn't require batteries and will charge the iPod at the same time. Also, I've found that (for whatever reason) it's not always best to transmit over an "empty" frequency. I get the best results transmitting over some country station. Go figure.

Lobster Fest 2006 (Slashfood)

Jun 14th 2006 2:28PM Ooh! Ooh! I've been there! That place is freakin' HUGE, and it's got really fun decor on the inside (ship's rigging, 3d beach murals, you name it). The menu is also insanely large. I liked what I had, a yellow curry, but the two friends I went with were both disappointed with their meals and refuse to go back.

A ring tone that only kids can hear (The Wireless Report)

Jun 12th 2006 1:39PM Owwww! That was an incredibly painful noise, like a cross between fingernails on a blackboard and a dog whistle. (On the bright side, it allayed my irrational fear that at 22, my hearing is shot.)
