A year with no new 25-man content (WoW)
Jan 24th 2008 12:50PM Let's try this again.
I think the majority of people aren't in BT and may never even hit BT, but there is a lot of content out there that they have seen but the BT group hasn't. I decided to bring my Druid up from level 42 to 70. (He was stuck at 42 for almost 18 months). I'm currently at 62 and I've discovered quests lines that I never knew existed. Lore that was, for me, previously unknown.
I personally would like a counter to tell me how many unique quests I've done and how many I could have done to let me know what % of the game I have actually seen. I'm sure that even after my third character hits 70 that there will be huge sections of the game that I've never seen.
The content is there. Maybe not for the hard core raider for whom "I pwn BT" is the slogan on their shirt, but with only a small percentage of the subscriber base in BT, I think waiting for Sunwell is appropriate. (By the way, do you think the top guilds who crack Sunwell in weeks, or days, are ever going to be happy?)

Nov 27th 2007 5:41PM One of the problems with launching a sweepstakes in Canada is that it must be written in both official languages: English and French. If there is no French it cannot be offered in Quebec. Also, you must answer a skill testing question to "win" anything. (BTW, the skill testing question can be: 3x4 - 10 = ??? ) Would probably require a Blizzard person to get all this arranged and they might be a little tight on money. After all, they are giving away less than $6000 in prizes, so it wouldn't make sense to spend more money than that in administrative costs.
(Wow, $6K in prizes. That's almost 2 minutes of revenue for Blizzard.)

Nov 27th 2007 5:32PM According to the Blizzard web site "...IS OPEN ONLY TO RESIDENTS OF THE UNITED STATES ...".
So, even though it was for the "North American" launch, they really mean the United States launch and as long as people from Florida and Rhode Island move to another state everything is fine. Yes, the publicity is nice, but the lack of coverage is annoying as is the false hopes given to those that particiapted in the "North American" launch, even if we did it from some other part of North America, or even overseas.

Nov 21st 2007 10:35AM Merry Christmas everyone!!
What's that you say Jimmy? You tried out World of Warcraft at www.warcraft.com and you want it for Christmas? Well, you just keep an eye under that Christmas tree and we'll see what happens.
Merry Marketting ... err, Christmas everyone!!!
WoW, Casually: The increased benefits of Battlegrounds to casual players (WoW)
Nov 16th 2007 5:00PM It looks like eveyone's experiences in the new AV are radically different. My warlock was on a 10 game losing streak prior to 2.3 and now I'm on a 6 game wining streak. (Alliance by the way.)
The shortest match was 10 minutes (my boss had a 9 minute last night) and the longest is 45. According to the addon I have running my pre 2.3 honor rate was averaging about 1000 honor per hour of AV play. (The occasional 2 hour match lowers that number dramatically.) While the sample rate after 2.3 is small, I am averaging about 1250 honor per hour (not including daily honor points).
It's a different game with the resource limits in place and it has most definitely increased the stature of healers. The biggest downside, however, is that my prot warrior is now pretty much useless in AV. With fewer elites, easier elites and the fact that you can win without fighting the end boss, the prot warrior is almost useless.
Collision mechanics -- yay or nay? (WoW)
Nov 5th 2007 1:48PM Lord, NO!
Sorry, but I'm thinking of the entrances to Drek'Thar in AV. Two warriors in each corridor, backed up by a priest of two will be able to hold off all of the opposing forces. Horrible. Six hour AV's, just what I wanted.

Oct 29th 2007 1:52PM Oh, and if you could make your content available to more than just the U.S., that would be appreciated. In Canada we get "Unfortunately this video is not currently available in your country or region."
Wow, DVD region encoding in streaming video. What will they think of next?
Microsoft has sold more than 88 million copies of Windows Vista (Download Squad)
Oct 26th 2007 1:40PM The company I am working at is licensed for 1500 copies of Vista. Five of which are installed, but Microsoft counts all 1500 as sales. Enterprise Agreements are wonderful things.
I would be much more interested in the sales figures for stores than in the numbers that Microsoft claims, as that is a true indication of whether or not your existing customer base wants your new OS.
What Can I Do to Help Those Who are Serving our Country ? (Blog Maverick)
Sep 11th 2007 1:23PM Not being American I am constantly amazed at the level of Patriotism that most Americans have. Even though people may not agree with the political decisions of their leaders, they still sign up and put their lives in danger, for their friends and family.
Being a soldier is not necessarily a lifelong career. Many/most soldiers leave the military and enter civilian life after having given their country many of their most productive and valuable years. This sacrifice is not always rewarded in terms of respect, or a commensurate amount of sacrifice on part of the country. These men and women have given themselves so that the country as a whole can be safer and yet society almost abandons them when the uniform comes off.
Is there a solution? I don't know. I do know that a better understanding of the situation of veterans is probably necessary before any answers can come out. Is this where Dan Rather Reports comes into it? Should Dan Rather look at the average veteran and see what sort of barriers he/she is up against when they return home? It is these barriers that need to be removed, be they social or economic, but they need to be understood before they can be removed.
Time to put your money where your mouth is Mark. You may not be able to provide a solution, but you can at least help with the awareness.
