RobotReplay - Someone may be watching (Download Squad)
May 21st 2007 10:06AM I'm for openness: Both for the observer, AND the observee. Setting aside password and personal/financial data security for a moment, why can't this little widget identify itself as a standard part of its operation? I'd like to know, you know? And, further, why can't this be a collaborative effort with the user, (who is, after all, 50% of the interaction here), giving both sides the opportunity to turn the widget on and off at their discretion? As with this morning when my use of a website was stopped by a hang communicating with robotreplay.com, it sure would have been nice to be able to complete my transaction. I think the website would have appreciated my business too, don't you?
Sony copy protection taking heat again: now DVDs won't play (Engadget)
Apr 18th 2007 9:05AM I can't use Sony DVD's without de-DRM'ing them them (Pioneer Tivo unit) nor can I use Sony CD's without de-DRM'ing them either. (I listen to my music via iTunes/iPod). Ironically, not only has Sony increased the copying of their content, they've also induced me to buy all my new music via amiestreet.com (100% DRM free) which doesn't carry any Sony artists. Besides, now I'm finding that the band Amelia kicks sorry Rachel Yamagata's butt at a fraction of the cost, and I don't really miss those Sony DVD's either. But I'm not upset, I'm mostly just laughing to myself and enjoying alternative entertainment choices.
