Why I Don't Wear a Suit and Can't Figure Out Why Anyone Does ! (Blog Maverick)
Jan 17th 2007 4:19PM When I went back to contracting in 1997, one of the first questions I asked was "Do I have to wear a suit and tie?" I generally turned the job done if I had, unless they'd at least let me ditch the tie.
Make beautiful fractal flames with Apophysis (Download Squad)
Oct 20th 2006 12:11PM It's highly addictive. I've been using Apophysis for 3-4 years, maybe longer. (Can't remember). I have a series of free e-paintings at two of my sites: www.countwordula.com and www.chaosreview.com
You don't need to know about strange attractors and dynamical systems, but it doesn't hurt.
Call for free with Futurephone (Download Squad)
Oct 13th 2006 4:24PM See Alec Saunders post (http://saunderslog.com/2006/10/11/whats-with-the-712-area-code/)
Iowa gets USF and other tax subsidies for telecom because of their population size (3Mln). Futurephone and others use the 712 area code, and terminate calls on a long distance carrier. They make a fraction of a cent per minute, so they do profit. However, because of the area code, you probably have to make a long distance call first to get that free international call.

Sep 23rd 2006 2:41AM Joanne, please excuse this comment being in a random post. There is a blogger (I use that term loosely) taking content via RSS feed from multiple poker websites and republishing it. I traced the site, pokerarticles.us, to some DJ in Europe, but he wouldn't respond to my comments at either of his sites. Content that both you and Wil have written has shown up there quite frequently as well.
While he's running his own adsense code, weirdly he claims about a dozen sites (with links in the navigation) as being contributors. I don't get that, but he has no arrangement with us to use our content. My email to adsense resulted in a recommendation to fill out a DMCA and snail-mail it to them. I'll leave it up to you, but maybe if you guys register a complaint with Google as well, his account would be suspended sooner.
Cooking on the weekends (Slashfood)
May 28th 2006 5:47PM My mother used to cook like this, when she first started her busines in the late 1970s, back when women were expected to do everything in the household, even if they had a job. She would make close to a week's worth of meals and freeze everything in glassware bowls. Microwaves were new then. While she's a great cook, the frozen-and-reheated meals never tasted as good as when she made them fresh.
She still does this cook-on-Sundays thing, but it tends to be a few days worth of meals and more baked goods than meals.
You'd be surprised, though, at how many restaurants do the same sort of thing with their popular dishes. I've worked in a variety of restaurants in the past 4 years and we'd make large pots of some dishes, then freeze them in lidded buckets - defrosting only when the bucket on the line was half-empty.
One thing to note: Italian food seems to hold up best under freezing. East Indian food never tastes as good.
Slashfood Pizza Day - later, but better (Slashfood)
Sep 26th 2005 4:50PM Okay, I'm cheating by using flatbread instead of making my own dough, but here's a quick and simple pizza recipe: http://cookingforone-or-two.blogspot.com/2005/09/coupon-clipping-for-food-items-and.html And the reason I don't bother making my own pizzas from scratch: mine'll never be as good as my mother's hotdog pizzas that she'd make us when my brother and I were kids. She just substituted pepperoni slices with chunks of hotdog, which just increased the texture so much. And she always sauteed the mushrooms first, before putting them on the pizzas. You've never tasted mushrooms on pizza right until you've tried it this way. Guilty food, sure. Tasty, absolutely. Don't forget the oregano.
Blueberry burgers (Slashfood)
Aug 31st 2005 7:02PM In the late 1970s or early 1980s, some university researcher combined 50% cherries and 50% ground beef to make burgers that apparently were delicious - according to surveys - and supposedly healthier. One wonders, though, if they were so delicious, why isn't anyone selling them over 20 years later?
The Greatest Grilled Cheese Sandwich (Slashfood)
Aug 29th 2005 2:28PM Forgive me. My humblest apologies for the double posting. Slashfood's server sent me two confirmation emails somehow (I didn't submit twice that I'm aware of), and I mistakenly confirmed both.
The Greatest Grilled Cheese Sandwich (Slashfood)
Aug 29th 2005 12:45PM My own personal best grilled cheese ever? I added slivered onions and roasted red peppers. See the recipe at http://curryelviscooks.blogspot.com/2005/08/grilled-cheese-deluxe-with-roasted-red.html elvis parsley (the curry elvis)
