Fotografix is a simple, free Photoshop alternative in under 1MB (Download Squad)

Apr 15th 2009 2:07PM i'm shocked that this even is possible in 700k. seems surprisingly decent -- with this, artweaver, and gimphoto i'm not missing photoshop much.

NVIDIA's Franken-Mini is half HP, half Tegra, no Intel (Engadget)

Apr 9th 2009 9:42AM Looks like Adobe has a version of Flash Player 9 or 10 for Win CE that they're only giving to OEMs. I suppose they don't want to support people hacking Flash Player onto their industrial barcode scanner. See also http://www.youtube.com/watch?hl=en&v=EO0RbepUUs0

Sony Ericsson's Walkman Xmini for Japan is awesome, but not for the usual reasons (Engadget)

Dec 8th 2008 4:27AM nice that they're trying to reduce the footprint, but it's still pretty fat. what happened to thin phones?

gOS Cloud instant-on OS shown on video (Engadget)

Dec 4th 2008 9:35AM @Kris120890: I don't know who told you gOS is partially funded by Google, but they're wrong. Read the bottom of the gOS website: "gOS is not affiliated with Google or their partners."

@NickNick: Chromium is the open-source project on which Chrome is based, but the Linux port is not in a usable state yet. Read: http://code.google.com/p/chromium/wiki/LinuxBuildInstructions

Plus if you watch the demo on YT by David Liu, the guy from gOS, he says that they've skinned Firefox to look like Chrome (at 0:18):

Logitech serves one-billionth mouse (Engadget)

Dec 3rd 2008 9:26AM to go along with the announcement, they should start a recycling program so they don't add to the 900 million mice they've contributed to our landfills.

Nokia unveils flagship N97 phone [update: video!] (Engadget)

Dec 2nd 2008 5:30AM does anyone else think the nokia screen font is hideously ugly? it's like an uglified version of the classic Mac OS font.

Blockbuster joins the movie set-top-box game with 2Wire MediaPoint player (Engadget)

Nov 25th 2008 3:55AM Good price point (sub $100), good movie selection (first-run, not like crappy Netflix on-demand selection), good distribution (Blockbuster's immense B&M chain), and good timing (ubiquitous broadband in the US)...assuming Blockbuster doesn't go under, I like the chances for this thing.

The only way to beat this would be to integrate it into a box that people are already getting anyways (like a 360 or a telcom STB like the AT&T uVerse) to eliminate the up-front cost.
