Apple offering free repairs for iPod touches, iPhones, and Macs damaged in the Japan quake and tsunami (TUAW.com)
May 14th 2011 1:39AM Well, it was a 60gb iPod, and it was in color, so I am guessing it was a photo, or 4th gen, but weren't those the same? It wasn't a 5th gen, that I do know. I received the iPod on the monday before and the iBook G4 on the friday before. I watched Back To The Future Part 3 on my laptop while the power was out (had battery life left and a UPS I'd turned off so I could turn it on and have power to the cable modem, if the cable still worked... it didn't that morning, so...) when the water started coming in. I stuck it on a high place (which turned out to be not high enough, only 5 ft off the ground) and ended up wading/swimming out of there.
The only thing Apple did to help me was let me fill out an affidavit for my student rebate. (Hence why I can believe I might have had a photo, they use the student deals to get rid of old ipods before replacing them)

May 13th 2011 10:05PM As someone who lost a 3 day old iBook and a 7 day old iPod Photo in Hurricane Katrina (well, not lost physically, but they didn't work anymore) and did in fact call Apple asking for help, I am surprised they're doing this. Maybe they'll only fix things that fell off a table, but weren't given a salty bath.

iPad will hit Verizon Wireless and AT&T stores October 28 (TUAW.com)
Oct 14th 2010 11:54AM Wish I'd read this earlier, but if you look at the FAQ, it's 1GB/$20, 3GB/$35, and 5GB/$50. Wish AT&T had these options!

Oct 14th 2010 11:51AM I'm with Robby, I want the 3g model not for the 3g but for the GPS. It's a shame that's not included on the non-3g, especially in a situation like this where it's an official deal with a carrier. Maybe 4.2's hardware accessory API will allow for a bluetooth connection with a gps device and that could work? Sure, 3 devices, but at least it'd become possible.
TUAW Tips: Play internet radio in background on your iPad (TUAW.com)
Aug 29th 2010 11:26AM Oh, steven, steven, steven. Neither one of them use "pls" or "m3u", they use shoutcast streaming and the pls/m3u are just playlist (hence pls, m3u is mp3 somethinganother) files that tell the client what the shoutcast server info is. And iTunes doesn't support the m3u from wrek.org, but if I paste the URL to the server (opening the m3u as a txt file, copy pasting the contents) in the iTunes -> Advanced -> Open Audio Stream window, it works fine.
It's possible to use pls files to show windows media files, which don't work at all in Mobile Safari. That's the point I'm trying to make. Oh well.

Jun 27th 2010 11:56AM That's like saying "the election didn't go my way, I'm moving to canada" instead of working to resolve the problem. Hey, the people that didn't move in 2004 sure had an effect in 2008!

Take Back the Beep: how to disable voicemail instructions on Sprint (updated!) (Engadget)
Jul 31st 2009 3:30PM This is correct, I was going to post the same thing.
4 does 'preferences', 2 does 'administrative options', 3 does 'change prompts', 2 does 'rapid prompt' (which is just your recorded message) then the beep.
