Grab a portable version of Firefox 4.0 beta 1, test it safely and easily (Download Squad)
Jul 7th 2010 11:05AM Sebastian - I'd suggest writing about us in a few weeks once we drop 2.0. We can probably even do something cool for Download Squad visitors. Drop me a line. :-)
Portable Apps platform 2.0 coming soon with loads of improvements (Download Squad)
Jul 1st 2010 7:45PM Christian - Yes, folder support is coming in 2.0 final. It's called categories and uses the default set from the website (Internet, Utilities, Security, Office, etc) that all the apps have included. From there, you can create your own categories and move apps around as you'd like. There are multiple configuration options for displaying the app list including whether you want to use favorites and whether you want to show most used apps first. See the screenshots for the 4 options you have for app organization to see what I mean.
Weird Wednesday: Billy Mays app awesomes up your CAPS LOCK KEY! (Download Squad)
Nov 18th 2009 8:42PM That's by design since Caps Lock is pretty useless and this is designed to make it useful. Just hold down shift and click Caps Lock to enable or disable it if you need to.

Nov 18th 2009 8:38PM Um, jlself, did you miss the part of the linked page that says "Who Made That Great Image of Billy Mays? That wonderful color artwork of Billy Mays was created by Glitschka Studios and is used with permission."
Kitchen Sink Collection offers 1.2 gigabytes of portable Windows apps (Download Squad)
Aug 5th 2009 1:32PM I already am, Tim. Some of it can't be worked around easily (licensing on Firefox et al as our license for the portable version does not extend to third parties). Some of it is minor stuff that can be fixed quickly (ensuring that the license is included and hosting it where required, e.g. GPL/LGPL stuff). Some of it has to be removed (some of the freeware like Winamp). And I've laid all that out for him so he can get things back up properly. I'm hoping to convince him to work with PortableApps.com, too, since many of the major apps in the collection are ours, anyway.

Palm Pre's "New-ness" event video now viewable (Engadget)
Jan 10th 2009 1:17PM Resource-wise, running multiple apps will be much less of an issue. Palm is saying "laptop-like performance" and it would seem they mean it. The processor they're using can be clocked from 600MHz to 1GHz. And the apps, while written in JS/CSS/HTML are far more functional that the iPhone's old widgets. Palm is providing JS extensions deeper into the operating system so you can work with the stuff on there including contacts and other stuff. They're not going to provide deeper hardware access in 1.0 (read: no 3D gaming) but you can expect them to in later releases (much as Apple did in later iPhone OS updates). They've already said they're going to give some partners deeper access off the bat.
