HP's 30-inch ZR30w IPS LCD monitor reviewed: exceptional performance, reasonable price (Engadget)

Jul 28th 2010 9:17AM @YpoCaramel

Actually, the XHD3000 is S-PVA, not TN. (According to the tftcentral.co.uk panel search). Hence the slightly lower price for its size, but still decent quality. I think, like others said, a TN panel that size at a traditional computer viewing distance would just be an unpleasant experience.

Nokia Kinetic concept revealed in prototype form (Engadget)

Jul 23rd 2010 2:03PM @theidiotbastardson

I know... Engadget is constantly showcasing these "design concepts" which are created by people with interesting ideas, but no actual burden to create WORKING products. So they can invent whatever technology needs to exist to make their concept work. Sometimes they're interesting, but it's all purely science fiction.

Because R&D is expensive and those costs have to get passed on to the first generation of adopters. Costs *will* come down after the technology matures and the research investment has been recouped, but that will take a few years and vehicle generations.

Envisioning an internet that's 100 times faster: we'll take two (Engadget)

Jun 29th 2010 2:40PM @Quantumman

THANK YOU. Finally, someone who understands what this is about. I thought this was a tech blog. You'd think there would be more people who understand the difference between latency and throughput.

A better title would be "Envisioning an internet that's 100 times more responsive." We're having a hard enough time getting FFTH rolled out in select markets across the U.S., much less the entire world.

Jun 25th 2010 9:44AM I don't think I want a tabbed operating system... can't we come up with some kind of new scheme? I'm getting sick of tabs for everything. It was revolutionary with Firefox like... 5 years ago. Let's move on.

+1 to the Illuminated Keyboard. Typing on it right now, and I love it.

Panasonic's 14-inch Toughbook F9 plays both rugged and lightweight cards (Engadget)

Except that this lid is significantly thicker and made out of magnesium alloy, not plastic. The drive is probably safer there than a traditional plastic drive on the outside of the case.
