Apple's iTunes-iPod lawsuit (Download Squad)
Jan 5th 2007 12:10PM I think there's a case here. Apple has simply refused to license the DRM they use, and that's a problem... if Microsoft did this, there would be a jihad waged over it. To me, that makes this suit totally fine - I'm sick to death of Apple getting "special" treatment in the marketplace because they're the "underdog". That time has passed. I think Apple has been guilty of pushing a monopoly for their iPods and Macs a like. Consider the situation in the EU or Korea, where Microsoft was forced to ship a version of Windows without a media player and/or an IM client; why is OS X allowed to ship with iTunes and iChat built into it?
I think it'll help to bring parity to the market. And I'm not saying Apple needs to open their doors for free but they should be licensing their DRM... licensing means support but it also means revenue so it's hardly a pain point... they just haven't been forced to do anything about it yet.
Having said that, I also have to assume that Melanie isn't smart enough to burn the iTunes music to an MP3 and rip it back. *g*
iPod Cold Weather Care: Loving Your iPod (TUAW.com)
Nov 29th 2006 4:39PM That the same operating temps for the nano? I wonder if the cold limits are there for the hard drive or the LCD. And if either, what about the shuffle?
I can see it now: someone in a schoolyard with their tongue stuck to a Gen2 Shuffle.
Is Windows Live (MSN) Spaces the world's biggest blogging service? (Download Squad)
Aug 21st 2006 12:25PM Since when does "biggest blogging service" mean that it has to host active blogs? Wouldn't "biggest" imply the number of active accounts? If you have a credit card that you don't use (or use often) aren't you still a customer with an account for that bank?
Mountain out of a mole hill. And shame on Scoble for causing the ruckus.

Jul 17th 2006 2:08PM Intel's fault? Hah! The G4 Powerbooks ran just "over" hot.
Sony talks up XBLA-killing E-Distribution initiative (Joystiq)
Jul 5th 2006 6:30PM I see Sony is going to "over think" this again.
Has anyone else noticed that the majority of the XBLA games on the 360 are older games or simple games, sold cheaply? Has Sony stopped to think that *that's* what makes them so popular? Small payments that aren't painful: good for impulse buys. Easy games: Hexic appeals to all ages, players, genre - it's as universal as Pacman. Old games: brings old memories to life which older gamers dig on.
And there's Sony dripping all of that "WE'LL PWN YOU WITH NEXT GEN 3D OBJECTS!!!11" marketing for their online service. Which implies that each game there will be $40 (or higher, if their price point for games DOES go above $60 as rumored) because at $40 it's still a BARGAIN.
From what I've seen about the online service for Wii, Nintendo gets it: Mario Bros should be THE first downloadable game, followed by Donkey Kong. And the response would be HUGE.
Ah well. To each their own.
Short-Lived Shows: Herman's Head (AOL TV)
May 23rd 2006 3:52PM Loved that show... especially since the actors popped up all over. Like Smith in Billy Jean, or the lust dude in Down Periscope - actually, it would probably make a great nexus for the Kevin Bacon game, considering that I don't think ANY of them have started opposite him. Was very entertaining... and should be on DVD soon, no? :)

May 3rd 2006 11:15AM The real question is where will you be playing next? I'd expect to see some uberTilt play involved :)
Hitachi's ED-X10 educational projector (Engadget)
Mar 28th 2006 3:47PM There IS a market for it: I saw two projectors walk from my University and those were hung off the ceiling about 10' up. Bit more serious than a casual gaming session, that :)
What did Junior say on Sopranos? (AOL TV)
Mar 15th 2006 5:19PM That sounds right. I mean Malenga was "Little Pussy" from the first season. And if I remember this episode correctly, Junior was going on about him during the easter egg hunt for the $40K in the backyard: it would certainly tie into the story, since he was on his mind.
In Defense of Apple's Announcments (TUAW.com)
Mar 1st 2006 11:29AM Unacceptable how? I heard it supports Core Graphics... that's a step up from my G4 mini.
On another note, I had a similar reaction: http://www.randyrants.com/2006/03/fumble_at_the_f.html - it's not that it didn't live up to expectations... it's just that there was nothing "good" in the mix.
