Mac Hack: Install Leopard on a PC (Download Squad)

Oct 29th 2007 11:55AM @3&10: The last time Apple tried allowing other companies to clone Apple hardware, it nearly put Apple out of business. It would be nice to see Apple selling Mac OS for any Intel machine. But I don't blame them for restricting it to Apple hardware, given the past. Maybe they will decide that they can make as much money on the sales of additional copies of the OS as they are losing by those people not buying Macs. Apparently they haven't come to that conclusion yet.

The health is on: Google to launch health site next year (Download Squad)

Oct 18th 2007 3:50PM "Google search chief Marissa Mayer says odds are if you're searching for health information online you're already using Google."

Wrong, I use WebMD to find health information. Are the folks at Google that arrogant?

Yahoo! Mail turns 10 (Download Squad)

Oct 11th 2007 9:25AM I have used the same Yahoo email account as my primary email account for about 8 years now. I have no intention of using anything else. I pay the $25/year for Yahoo Mail Plus so that I don't have ads and I don't have that G-company indexing my personal information. My SpamGuard is well-trained so that spam is but a minor annoyance. My main beef is that Yahoo hasn't capitalized much on its once-superior integration in recent years. Also, Yahoo doesn't yet have online applications. Hopefully the acquisition of Zimbra will change that.

Monopoly ditches cash, goes plastic (Engadget)

Sep 25th 2007 10:19PM This is basically a lie. The Electronic Banking edition is just one of the many special editions that Parker Brothers has made over the years. One year later and you can still buy the classic edition complete with paper money. You should be ashamed of yourselves for not doing your research, and I'll remember not to read anything posted by this blog in the future.

Gmail getting a facelift? (Download Squad)

Sep 25th 2007 12:29PM I really can't think of any reason why I would need labels over hierarchical folders. The vast majority of messages that I keep are going into only one folder. They don't need more than one label. If you really need to add more than one label to a message, odds are you can find it just as easily with a good search tool.

The point is that not everybody wants to be forced to use labels. I'm certainly not going to manually tag several years' worth of email with labels when they are already in folders.

Sheetster: Web based spreadsheets (Download Squad)

Aug 27th 2007 10:40AM Was all the rhetoric about spreadsheets really necessary?

When is an emoticon inappropriate? (Download Squad)

Aug 9th 2007 11:34AM I've developed the habit of using emoticons extensively in online communication. I also believe that that is because the emoticon helps add the emotion and tone that is lost in plain text.

I don't see much of a place for emoticons in formal prose or most serious, preofessional communications. However, I see it becoming widely accepted as email and text messaging replace face-to-face interactions and phone calls.

Live questions and answers with Fluther (Download Squad)

Jun 29th 2007 4:25PM This has been tried many times before. What's so special about this site that will actually make it profitable?

Why won't Gmail add filtering based on character sets? (Download Squad)

Jun 24th 2007 4:46PM I can't remember the last time I saw a Cyrillic message in my Spam folder, much less my inbox. I use Yahoo Mail.

Google and Clear Channel announce a drive for radio advertiser expansion (Download Squad)

Apr 26th 2007 7:58PM Probably because most people don't buy the rancid hyperbole that gets posted every time Clear Channel does something. It got old years ago.
