Alleged Snow Leopard screenshots and video (TUAW.com)
May 18th 2009 5:30PM Wait a second, were Substitutions always in 10.5? After watching this video I opened TextEdit and I have Smart Copy/Paste, Smart Quotes, and Smart Links available. Also in iChat, and I'm sure other apps, but not Mail.
New MacBooks add metal cases, power to burn but no FireWire (TUAW.com)
Oct 15th 2008 4:00AM Re: The audio interface argument: There are just as many pro USB interfaces as there are FireWire ones. Digidesign, Native Instruments, PreSonus, Line 6, M-Audio, etc., ALL make USB interfaces.
I like USB interfaces a little bit better based on the physical connection alone; USB sort of snaps in and feels more secure than FireWire. I've been touring and recording with USB interfaces since they've been making them.
Re: FireWire hard drives vs USB2 hard drives... I haven't noticed a difference in file transfer speed, honestly.
Re: DV cameras: I understand people being bummed.
Apple Store is back online, with changes (TUAW.com)
Oct 14th 2008 6:31PM Where's the Mini DisplayPort to Video adaptor?
You know, like this one:

Dream Capture 2.2 released (TUAW.com)
Oct 6th 2008 7:28PM I just downloaded the trial and this app is total garbage! QuickTime Pro mirrors all of Dream Capture's functionality with much more elegance. The interface is horrible! It's all in the details; look at the volume icon, it has a white matte on a brushed metal background.
Pictures of Apple's new MacBook leaked on Taiwanese site? (Engadget)
Aug 4th 2008 4:02PM Doesn't aluminum make for bad wifi reception?
The current MacBooks get much better reception than the MacBook Air or MacBook Pro.
Dvorak Keyboard on the MacBook (TUAW.com)
Dec 27th 2006 5:39PM It's not supposedly faster, it's just plain faster. QWERTY was made slow so the hammers on typewriters wouldn't jam. It's supposed to slow you down.
Someday I'll learn DVORAK! Someday...
Shiira 2.0 Preview (TUAW.com)
Jul 25th 2006 3:35PM Is there something out there for us that will render pages in the EFFED up way Windows/IE does? That would be an amazing tool for designers that refuse to buy a crapbox only for testing purposes. Isn't there a version of IE6 that runs on Intel Macs? What about PowerPCs?
Apple easter egg in Pixar's "Cars" (TUAW.com)
Jun 12th 2006 12:41PM I sort of think that "8" in "84" is more of an infinite loop than an 8!
MacBook vs. iBook (TUAW.com)
May 18th 2006 6:51PM The Intel integrated graphics totally screws my purchase up. I just came from the Pioneer Place Apple Store here in Portland, Oregon where they told me that I won't be able to run Final Cut Pro or Motion on the MacBook. WHAT!? My current iBook can run FCP well enough to get by (making movies on the road, little edits here and there, etc.)
Does anyone know more details?
OS X is 5 years young (TUAW.com)
Mar 25th 2006 1:57PM "(remember when the Apple menu was in the middle of the menu bar?)"
"(if i remember correctly, that wasn't the apple menu in the middle of the menu bar. it was just a decorative apple. it looked cool, but it didn't do anything.
man, i remember how strange and different the Public Beta was when i installed; i remember getting home really late at night, seeing it in my mail, and reading every little bit of the package/booklet while it installed.)"
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the Apple was centered in the menu bar to sort of act as the "digital sun," i.e. it was the source that casts the shadows on windows, buttons, etc. (notice how OS X's drop shadows are centered).
More discussion on the digital sun:
