What the New York Times "death by blogging" story got right. (The Jason Calacanis Weblog)
Apr 9th 2008 6:53PM Good post Jason,
One thing people should keep in mind when they have a friend undergoing that much stress is to spend less time just giving advice and more time getting curious.
Odds are the person has been given a lot of advice by others, usually unsolicited, sometimes unwelcome.
People generally respond better when you start asking questions (assuming that they're open to you doing so), not interrogating them, but getting curious about the reasons why they're going all out and not taking brain breaks.
Then, maybe start asking questions that might get them to come up with some of the answers themselves, if it comes out of their mouths, they're more likely to do it.
Perhaps they might consider working with an outside objective observer like a coach or a therapist. People who don't have emotional ties to the person, so they can open up without feeling judged, defensive and reactive. I'm biased, I'm a coach:)
I've found in my work with my ADD clients is that the single most effective things you can do at work to make yourself more productive and happier is to take regular non-electronic breaks.
Your brain and body have finite sources of energy and when you use them up you start to distract out, brown out or burn out. So you need to renew that energy on a regular basis. Even a 5-minute walk around or outside the office can help. Stopping regularly to fuel up with exercise, water, and healthy food reduces your stress and renew your energy. Especially in the deadline driven wired world it's important to learn to stop, especially when you feel that you "don't have the time".
If you don't, you tend to distract out, procrastinate, brown out or burn out.
Maybe it would be helpful for them to brainstorm with other people a list of those non electronic breaks they could take, and find a way of scheduling them in on a regular basis even if that is a different time every day.

Loic interviews me about Mahalo (The Jason Calacanis Weblog)
Jun 7th 2007 2:25AM so Jason, are you going to do a blog post on the top 10 ways to punk valleywag?
Actually correction on wikipedia. They actually do have links out, but they don't have it in the body of the entry, they have them at the bottom.
I get a bit of traffic from them for a blog post i did on internet addiction someone put a link to it on the topic. Because they recently put nofollow links on their outgoing links, getting a link on wikipedia won't help your page rank, but will get you a bit of traffic, so less incentives for SEO's to game it.
good interview, very ambitious goal to clean up a portion of the internet. Maybe you'll spawn a new SEO business model in user oriented content optimization.

May 31st 2007 2:30AM Thanks for creating an antisplog/antispam search engine, maybe you'll motivate google to start cleaning up their act.
Interesting related results page you have for search engine optimization. Another linkbait scheme for SEO's I assume? Since I'm not quite sure how thomas the tank engine and The Search for the Next Doll are related to SEO. Got one right though, Matt Cutts.
Good idea, skimming the cream of the SERP's for adsense type revenue. How often will you be updating the results to keep out the spam and dead links? Also given that you list the names of some of your page editors what measures have you put in place to make sure they're not, ahem compromised by black hat seo's for competitive search terms?
You might consider adding Forums as a category for some search items i.e., for apple you might want to add these forums.
http://forums.macnn.com/
http://www.macfixitforums.com/
http://forums.macosxhints.com/
Also what about setting up RSS feeds for each individual term for people who might want to see what has been updated for specific terms ie adult ADHD? Since you're kind of a hybrid search engine/link directory.
Good luck
Well, that would explain a lot. (The Jason Calacanis Weblog)
Apr 20th 2006 1:20AM Jeff you can get treatment AND be a creative, innovative, passionate, motivated, contributor to your business that succeeds even more often, with less stress and struggle.
It's not an either or.
Proper treatment (the right ADD medication(s) and the right dose), ADD coaching, therapy, exercise, diet etc) can allow you to spend more time developing and using your ADD strengths by helping you to better manage some of the negatives of aspects ADD, as well as enhancing the positive aspects of ADD.
I think that having ADD would be a definite advantage for bloggers doing multiple daily posts or with multiple blogs.
