Sparrow for Mac beta hands-on review (TUAW.com)
Dec 22nd 2010 5:00AM My personal biggest "problem" with Sparrow is that it only does IMAP-mail, and no POP-mail. I have about 1000+ emails of which some have very large attachments, and I don't want to synchronize them to my Mac. I also don't like it when I delete an email on my Mac (because I like a clean inbox), it also gets deleted on my Gmail account online.
The second biggest thing that is not too userfriendly in my mind is that it's an icon-only menubar (both on top and left side), which to average users is very confusing.
Netflix/ABC/Disney streaming deal will bring TV all-you-can-eat to Apple TV (TUAW.com)
Dec 9th 2010 7:54AM The only downside is that no one in Europe will be able to benefit from these deals, unless you're one of the select few that are able to fake their location to make iTunes/Apple/Netflix and such believe they are in the US.
All these countries in Europe (I'm from Holland myself) should get of their high horse and start working together instead of keeping to themselves... there's plenty of things not to like about how America deals with internet (like the RIAA and MPAA for example), but when it comes to streaming-options America is definately way ahead of most European countries :)
Is the Apollo News Reader defunct? (TUAW.com)
Nov 22nd 2010 6:25AM It would be rather strange if Apollo wouldn't be coming back at all... people spent money for their service, so to just pack up and leave would be very "not nice", if I may say so.
Adobe fires back at Apple again: your users DO want Flash, and we can prove it (Download Squad)
Feb 10th 2010 9:16AM As long as we have a choice in what device we're using, there's not too much wrong with a developer (in this case Apple) to lock their device if they believe that (in this case) Flash would be a bad thing for their device. We're free to choose wether or not we feel the same way or can live with this limit :)
Adobe fires back at Apple again: your users DO want Flash, and we can prove it (Download Squad)
Feb 10th 2010 9:08AM Visiting a website that has Flash in it is not the same as actually wanting Flash imho.
Flash will, for the next couple of years, probably have a good chunk of the web in its hands and there are (imho) absolutely plenty of websites/webgames that make very good use of Flash.
But if your plugin crashes, even if it's rarely, it won't do good on an embedded OS. On most Macs I work with (as a developer/designer) Flash crashes about 5-10 times as much as any other plugin. Even if it's once a day at maximum, a crash for a plugin is never a good thing.
On top of that, the Mac version asks for too many CPU-resources. And that's not because Apple won't allow Adobe to use certain API's to give them acces to hardware acceleration. Flash on the Mac has álways used way more resources (and has been slower) than it's PC counterpart.
I personally think that Apple blocks Flash because of those 2 very reasons. It's too slow and resource-hogging compared to the PC version.
I would love to see Flash on the iPod/iPhone/iPad though, but I can definately relate to the problems Flash has on the Mac OS system at this moment... if they can deliver an absolutely killer v1.10 they might actually get some leverage on getting Flash on the mobile devices of Apple. If they fail to deliver something good with Flash v1.10, it's their own fault for doing so.
First Look: Memeo Send with special deal for TUAW readers (TUAW.com)
Aug 12th 2009 11:00AM Ah, thank you for the response Roberrt :)
Now that you mention it, it does say so on the website. I guess I might need some glasses after all!
Overall a nice little serice/program though... especially if you send big files. At the moment I use Dropbox's public folder for files up to 300MB, mainly because that's the biggest size I currently send to my clients (mostly vector work). But occassionally I have to make a package that exceeds the 1GB barrier quite easily if it's a big package, which would make a move to Memeo's Send a very easy step :)
Can't say that I understand how to set up an FTP-server on my home computer; even though I'm decently tech-minded, I can't seem to grasp the right info on how to set up an FTP-server. Too difficult for me I guess ;)

Aug 12th 2009 10:33AM Something I couldn't find out on their website; do you need Memeo Send to receive files as well?
If so, I don't think all our clients are willing to install a program just to receive files... at least not while things like Yousendit and Megaupload are available to everyone without installing a thing for the receiving end.
Shifting Perspectives: Patch 3.0.8 for Druids (WoW)
Jan 22nd 2009 7:46AM Something that's not quite clear to me regarding the new Druid's toolip-weapon change, is wether or not the shown FAP includes the other stats as well.
For example:
Old "druid"-only weapons had stats like STR/AGI, and on tóp of that a nice amount of FAP.
New available weapons (like the Titansteel weapons) now shów the FAP for druids, but also have +100str for example. The shown FAP for druids, does that include the +100str, or does the +100str gets added as an additional stat?
With the rather big change regarding the FAP-tooltip, I'm not sure if the shown FAP includes all stats or not... would be a shame to spend 2000g on a Titansteel weapon if the +100str doesn't come as an addition to the +1800FAP :)
Dropbox: Seamless file upload and sharing (TUAW.com)
May 23rd 2008 12:39AM I love their service as well, but the only thing I'm not content with is their privacy and usage terms. They say they may allow third parties to email us (read: spam), and use a cookie to watch what sites we visit (outside of the DropBox site).
Those are the only 2 points that really bug me, but other then that it works really well :)
Ohyeah... and their uploadspeed isn't superfast yet, but that might probably change in time ;) (only 52KB as we speak)
Mac 101: Eject button in the menu bar (TUAW.com)
May 22nd 2008 10:30AM I can't find that folder to be honest... I'm using Tiger 10.4.11, but the Coreservices folder isn't in my Useraccount's library nor my Systemaccount's library. Is this a Leopard only feature? :)
