Boy Scouts introduce videogame badge, other badges ask 'Really?' (Engadget)

Apr 28th 2010 12:13PM Cub scouting (elementary school) belt loops are intended as a way of exposing young scouts and their families to try new things. Of course there are traditional topics such as carpentry, cooking and first aid, there are also bowling, soccer, bicycling, swimming, etc. many boys (to my surprise) have never cooked a grilled cheese, gone bowling or been swimming. Often the badges, as mentioned, have aspects of family inclusion and a reflection on safety. I think this program is perfectly in keeping with the scouting tradition.
With regards to game ratings: many parents would prefer to just give their kid what they want because that's what some other kid has. The requirements cited require that the family have that uncomfortable conversation. which is good.

Blockbuster On Demand goes live on TiVo boxes (Engadget)

Oct 13th 2009 9:42AM I have to say that the Tivo is great and the Netflix streaming has made it even better for $9 per month extra. With all of the fees being collected for netflix and blockbuster, it would be nice to see the Tivo boxes be subsidized to reach more users.

Lip gloss alert: Yahoo! launches new Web site (Download Squad)

Mar 31st 2008 10:33AM Lisa,
I understand your comments. But I feel there is room for both "meaningfull" content and for blogs that pander to More stereotypical demographic models. Your example about the hypothetical Men's site exist today in hundreds of places. Men and women are sophistocated enough to know how to find the content they need, be it parenting advice, tech tips, or fashion advice. Although a fan of download squad and its sister sites, I do not expect them to be my "complete solution". I agree with the first repondant that you may wish to "lighten up" a bit. There is still a massive audience for women directed magazines that cover these "stereotypical" topics. It is probably due to desire on the part of (a substantial #) of that audience in the topics.
