REPORT: Cadillac DTS to be replaced by XTS, which will be built in Canada alongside new Buick Regal (Autoblog)

Jul 2nd 2009 10:43AM Agreed. The only difference is that AWD is standard on the A8.

What I don't understand is how the will compete with the likes of BMW/Audi/MB/Lexus with this lineup.

They have the CTS, which is the size of a 5 series
The STS is the size of a Lexus LS (the flagship)
As I see it, they need a smaller model to compete with the likes of the IS/3 series and move the other cars a little more upmarket. Seriously... go look at the specs of those cars.

REPORT: Cadillac DTS to be replaced by XTS, which will be built in Canada alongside new Buick Regal (Autoblog)

Jul 2nd 2009 10:40AM Funny you say that, since 3 out of 4 Lexus sedans are RWD (all of them except the ES = Camry). And how is it that Lexus is an "industry failure" when it has outsold all luxury marques for at least the last 10 years (in the US)?

Officially Official: BMW reveals 2011 X1, confirms sales in the States [w/VIDEO] (Autoblog)

Jul 1st 2009 10:46PM They needed all the help they could get with this to compete against the GLK - which is simply beautiful. So now that the X1 is the size of the X3, what will happen to the X3? Will it grow in size of the X5? Will the X5 grow to become an Escalade-like monster? I hope BMW won't go there, but hey - that's what brings in the big bucks.

As I see it, here are the closest competitors to the X1:
- GLK
- Caddy SRX
- Lexus RX
- Acura RDX
- Infiniti EX
- Lincoln MKX (which might be a bit too big for these cars)
- Audi Q5

However, I think this move was more in line to compete with MB. The GLK is the same size as the ML - so the ML will move upmarket. In the same light, the X1 is the same size as the X3, so the X3 will move upmarket to compete with the ML.

What do you think?

Officially Official: GM to build B-segment cars in Lake Orion, MI (Autoblog)

Jun 26th 2009 2:35PM Is the spark an actual production car or a concept?

Also, why would GM make a Buick version of the Astra? I'd say that Chevy is the right brand for such a product instead of Buick. What do you think?

Despite new Mercedes-Benz E-Class coupe, rumors of a new CLK persist (Autoblog)

May 27th 2009 10:59PM @Jonathan

I agree. I guess I'm just hoping that MB gets it act together and starts to properly name things - the E-class coupe should be named the C-class coupe.

Same thing with CL - a S-class coupe.

And then they can make an E-class coupe based on (wait for it...)
the E-class sedan!

It's not so hard! What gives MB?

Despite new Mercedes-Benz E-Class coupe, rumors of a new CLK persist (Autoblog)

May 26th 2009 7:41PM I think that there is space for this vehicle.

Think of it this way:

The E-class coupe, at $50,000, is a coupe version of the E-class (even though it's a C class underneath)

This rumored car, to be priced around $35,000, is a coupe version of the C-class. Kind of like the 3-series sedan is to the 3-series coupe. They should call it C-class coupe instead of CLK. CLK just confuses people.

I just really hope that all the news about the E-class coupe not being based on the E sedan are not true. But even if they are, it means that the E coupe and this rumored CLK/c-class coupe will share many a component.

EX Phone Home: Nissan rebadges Infiniti EX as Skyline Crossover for JDM (Autoblog)

Apr 16th 2009 6:55PM Isn't the FX closer to the skyline than the EX?

Geneva Preview: Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe (Autoblog)

Feb 17th 2009 10:08AM Amen to that! Before it was like the CLK was a Kompact CL, which - even if a little true - didn't really make sense when Audi and BMW have a sedan-derived naming scheme for their coupes.

So does this means the CL will become "S class Coupe"?

How about the SL and the SLK?
Perhaps SL can stay, but the SLK can become the C-class roadster? Just a thought.

Also, doesn't this position the E-class coupe more in the territory of the 6-series/6er, the 6 being derived from the 5 series (just like the E coupe is derived from the E sedan?)

In the Family: Elena Ford to lead Blue Oval's global marketing efforts (Autoblog)

Jan 28th 2009 6:04PM Chris, great to know but you're missing a huge part of the picture:
The new unified/global marketing effort will be much more than simply saving

"...a lot of money by using single-source ad companies, production crews, and company staff." - as you put it.

Sadly, many people think that marketing only involves thinking of, making, and selling ads (and other ad-related activities).

Nothing can be further from the truth: marketing is what drives a company forward from the core: marketing works right alongside engineering, design, and operations in developing any product.

What size should it be? What features will it have? What is our target market and who will buy it? Those are just some of the questions answered by marketing. NOT how to make an ad; in fact, that is called advertising. Not marketing. Advertising is to marketing as Focus is to Ford, a part of the whole.

Here's a direct quote from the press release that solidifies this:
"This marketing approach follows consolidation of Ford's global product development activities in 2006 and global purchasing operations in 2008. It also reflects an aggressive move to global vehicles. All Ford vehicles competing in global segments will be common in North America, Europe and Asia within the next five years. They include Fiesta- and Focus-sized small cars, Fusion- and Mondeo-sized mid-size cars and utilities, and commercial vans."

Key words:
-consolidation of product development
-global purchasing

Sony doth protest too much: don't call the VAIO P a netbook? (Engadget)

Jan 20th 2009 9:31PM Sadly, can think of a ton of people who will buy this. It's like the MacBook Air of the netbooks. Only the Air actually provides one staggering feature (lightness and "thin-nes").
