Tom Brady Rips ESPN (Fanhouse NFL Blog)

May 14th 2008 10:20AM @billybob - Signals don't change that frequently - especially not between the first and second half of a game. Video tape a teams signals for 1 or two quarters and then after the coaches in the booth have a chance to watch them, they radio in to the QB what the coverage is going to be.

Also, NFL playbooks are too complex to be changing signals frequently. The average college playbook has about 250 plays in it. The average NFL playbook has at least 10 times as many (this comes from comments that lots of rookies have made over the years). If the signals changed frequently, players would spend all of their time memorizing new signals and not practicing.

If former players and coaches are saying stealing signals gave the Patriots a huge advantage, I am inclined to believe them. (And it is stealing since they weren't suppose to have video cameras pointed at the people they were recording even if they did have permission to have extra cameras on the sidelines / endzones).

Virtualization: The OS cold war (Download Squad)

Feb 18th 2007 12:05AM Todd,

That is exactly what it is. When the new version of Office for the Mac comes out, it will no longer support VBA macros, so I will need to have a virtual Windows machine to now run the Windows version of Office that I will now need to purchase.

So in the end, MS is screwing people... instead of being able to just buy a Mac version of Office, Mac users will now need to buy Windows and a Windows copy of Office in order to maintain compatibility with existing macros and the open document format.

Microsoft will support OpenID (Download Squad)

Feb 17th 2007 11:52PM Lt's get this straight... We're suppose to think that having one user name, excuse me URL, that will allow access to multiple sites is going to improve security?

Haven't we been told for years to not use the same user name and password for websites so that our information remains secure. The whole concept of OpenID contradicts everything we have been told about online password security over the years.
