Mar 14th 2011 5:07PM Does this mark a turning point in Hollywood's interactions with the Internet, moving away from being considered a threat, to more of an opportunity?

"The video contains content from ShangriLaEnt, who has blocked it in your country on copyright grounds."

Apple website updated with HTML5 goodness (Download Squad)

Jan 26th 2011 10:46PM And what "HTML5" are we actually seeing here?

Quick look at the source seems to show:

- HTML5 doctype on the first line
- A few JavaScript effects (not HTML5)
- A little bit of webkit-specific CSS3 (again, not HTML5)

Aside from the doctype, I'm not sure any HTML5 features are used at all. I'm not it is justified to call this "HTML5 goodness".

Aug 5th 2010 9:59PM Implemented correctly, there is no loss of accessibility:

1. Place alternative content within the Flash object element. Browsers without the Flash plugin will automatically ignore the object and show the alternative content. This is a part of the W3C's spec on how embedded object should behave.

2. Use swfobject to detect if Flash is supported and dynamically insert a new Flash object in place of the original content.

In both cases your content will accessible to different devices, search engines and vision impaired users. User that do have Flash installed will get a little extra eye candy.

Virtualization: The OS cold war (Download Squad)

Feb 13th 2007 3:52PM I'm sure this has been discussed elsewhere, but Vista Basic's EULA only forbids virtualization on a machine where that copy of Vista is already installed as a non-virtualized OS.

From the EULA:
"You may not use the software installed on the licensed device within a virtual (or otherwise emulated) hardware system."

You cannot virtualize Vista Basic on your installation of Vista Basic. This means there is no problem with running Vista Basic in Parallels if you're not also using it in BootCamp.
