What was Warner Brothers thinking ? (Blog Maverick)
May 11th 2006 8:59AM I'm surprised at you, Mark-you seem to be implying that you agree with the RIAA/MPAA that downloading/file sharing is "stealing." This is a complete fiction made up by the RIAA out of fear for their archaic business model. You're generally pretty progressive on this stuff. It's not that we all want it for free, it's that we want it NOW, we want it HOW WE WANT IT, and we want to be able to DO WHAT WE WANT WITH IT, at an affordable price (99c a track is still too much, as is $14.99 for a DVD or CD. What you lose in margin, you'll more than make up in volume). Bittorrent comes closest to addressing these needs, so we use it. If something better comes along, we'll use that. The sooner the studios and labels figure out that they can make a ton of money through voluntary collective licensing--or another model that allows consumers to do what they want with the stuff they buy while still paying the people who make the content--the better off everyone will be, labels and studios included. Then deals like this will make perfect sense.

Jan 2nd 2006 10:27AM Non-extendable lenses make me wonder if this thing could survive a few minutes in the rain. Would be great to see a truly waterproof version, a la the Pentax Optio WPi. Like the retro looks, but I really like the big screen.
Ask Download Squad: What's the best download manager? (Download Squad)
Aug 5th 2005 10:05AM I use firefox with Free Download Manager and the FlashGot extension. FDM is a great little piece of software--perfect for finding all the MP3's on a page, and definitely faster than the built-in client in Firefox.
