Disney's 'Tangled' Did Well -- But Is It Enough? (BloggingStocks)

Nov 29th 2010 5:23PM I guess the production cost is water under the bridge at this point- the movie went through many changes which inflated the total budget. On its own merits, I think $70M is a great opening weekend for the movie. Also, I thought the movie was very good (took my 5 year old daughter this weekend), which typically gives a movie more legs (I mean quality of product, not whether or not I liked it ;).)

'Avatar 2' to be Filmed Underwater by James Cameron? (Moviefone Blog)

Oct 21st 2010 3:14PM Not sure what Eric said is overly critical? What he posted was exactly my first thought- Avatar relies heavily on CGI for characters and environments, so why would he need to dive so deep to film footage for the movie? Just curious. It might just be exploratory research to create environments for Avatar 2, or perhaps somehow he will incorporate actual filmed footage into the movie?

Notion Ink Adam delayed, this time investors are to blame (updated!) (Engadget)

Aug 10th 2010 12:20PM The sense I get from the Slashgear article is that things WERE really on shaky ground (back when their blog went stale without updates), but that things are looking much better now with investor issues (hopefully) resolved.

That Notion Ink timeline is really interesting. I wish them the best, getting this product from conception to design to actual release is difficult even under the best of circumstances. I get a sense that the founders are very idealistic, but mostly in a good way- you have to stick to your guns at some point or your product will disintegrate before your eyes due to internal and external pressures (better as a netbook?)

Microsoft algorithm uses six-axis motion sensors to fix blurry snapshots, inadvertently pimping your ride (Engadget)

Aug 2nd 2010 2:17PM @loocas Says the pinhole camera guy. Are you also against improvements in sensor technology either? Let's go back to film, so we never have any of these issues ever again.

Redbox rolling out $1.50 Blu-ray rentals at 13,000-plus kiosks, nationwide by fall (Engadget)

Jul 30th 2010 1:52AM Anyone know if Redboxes in Los Angeles have started stocking Blu-Rays? $1.50 is a great deal, might actually start using my Blu-Ray player now...

Microsoft to employees: 'everybody gets a Windows Phone 7!' (Engadget)

Jul 21st 2010 9:54PM They should have done that with Kin, then sales would have been a lot better.

Just kidding!

Visualized: Tesla owner talks smack using world's greatest vanity plate (Engadget)

Jul 20th 2010 12:20PM @Knifes Edge I like the Tesla too, but the Volt is a series hybrid which means it will run all-electric, the gas engine is solely a backup electric generator. I think it's actually an excellent compromise for those who will occasionally need the extra range.

How-to: install Pixel Qi's 3Qi display on your netbook (and why it's worth it) (Engadget)

Jul 19th 2010 4:02PM @hacp I would definitely like to see this. The low power mode is going to be for reading, writing, etc., and probably not for watching movies (even black and white ones...)

Mel Gibson Fallout: Audio Released, Agents Gone, Career ... Over? (Cinematical)

Jul 11th 2010 4:09AM Yes, maybe...it was a private conversation. By no means am I a perfect person, and surely in my drunken moments I've said some things I'm glad weren't taped and released on Radar Online.

But I have never uttered those kinds of words, that sort of ill will and toxicity towards any race or group no matter how drunk I was. Not in a private phone call, and certainly not to cops. It just wouldn't ever occur to me to have those sorts of thoughts.

When it happened the first time, I was more than willing to give him a second chance- stress, counseling, all the right things were said to express contrition.

Now I really wonder what kind of worldview this guy has, and what he really thinks of other ethnicities- how could you not? I could care less about his career, as much as I wonder what kind of person says these things more than once. If you knew someone personally that has had these (multiple) episodes, would you want to have anything to do with him/her? Whether he's a successful banker or whatever, and how his career is affected, is besides the point.

iPhone 4 drop test yields results (video) (Engadget)

Jun 24th 2010 11:51AM @abedinthehouse In general I agree with your sentiment. But I think Apple used the right technical terms to describe the glass. Just because something is high on the Mohs scale, does not mean it cannot be brittle. One good thing about plastic is that it is more elastic than glass, but this attribute is not mentioned by Apple. To a consumer, terms like 'hardness', 'durable', 'stiffness', 'scratch-proof' may all seem similar and imply that the display is unbreakable, but obviously that is not true. I am not a mechanical engineer, but have had to look into these terms before.
