Psych: Shawn vs. The Red Phantom (AOL TV)

Aug 26th 2006 3:16PM The missing kid's first name (Malone) was also a Batman reference... when Bats needed to go undercover among the criminal element to get info, he'd adopt the identity of "Matches" Malone.

The Green Spirit writer's name lacking a connection to Batman was, I thought, a pretty obvious clue that he was the culprit. All the other episode-specific characters (except Takei, of course) had Batman connections in their names: Malone Breyogle, Rob and Don, Dent, Talia. Made Holtz Kooler really stand out.

Law and Order franchise renewed for the fall season (AOL TV)

Apr 28th 2006 3:41PM "Next season will be the 17th for Dick Wolf's original Law & Order, which makes it the longest-running television drama"

Longest-running drama that's currently on, you mean? Gunsmoke went for 20 seasons.

Curb Your Enthusiasm: The Korean Bookie (AOL TV)

Nov 28th 2005 1:54PM I found the ending of this episode kinda weak. Larry running around telling everyone that they were eating dog and the reactions of the people could have been up there with Season 3's profanity-laced finale, but it just didn't have any follow-through. Larry and Cheryl's subsequent encounter with Oscar in the parking lot was an uninspired and lazy way of showing us what we knew was coming (i.e. that Oscar wasn't dinner) and the crash into Heineman's car didn't resonate with the previous episode (or even the earlier scene in this ep) the way it should have. Very poor way to end what could have been one of the funniest episodes this season.

The Five (by Five): Best episodes of Buffy (AOL TV)

Oct 24th 2005 3:49PM My Top 5, in no particular order... "Restless" -- Best dream episode of any show, ever. Completely surreal, yet totally on point about who these characters are. Sets up some stuff for later, satisfying the continuity geek in me. Plus, the First Slayer is just cool. "Hush" -- Creepiest Buffy episode. One of the creepiest episodes I've ever of any show. And yet funny, too. "Becoming, Part II" -- Perfect balance of emotion and action. Acathla's kinda goofy, but the interplay between Buffy and Angel and the flashbacks is excellent. Spike is sorta heroic here without needing that stupid chip. "Passion" -- Giles in action. Angel is EVIL. Buffy is pretty much useless. This one is all about the Giles. "Graduation, Part II" -- Encompassed so much of what this show was about. Gut-wrenching action, heartbreak at Angel leaving, joy at having survived not just another monster but highs school as well. A nice ending to the early years of the show. Plus, Snyder gets eaten by a giant snake! Honorable mentions include: "The Body", "Doppelgangland", "The Zeppo" and "Superstar". And I have never for the life of me been able to fathom the love that "Once More, With Feeling" gets in fan circles. To me, it's a crappy gimmick episode that doesn't advance the plot, doesn't give us any new insights into the characters, doesn't have any good action, doesn't have any emotional resonance. The whole reason behind the singing gimmick is never adequately explained, people act out of character, and the jokes aren't funny. It exists solely to fulfill Whedon's masturbatory desire for a musical episode. It's an average episode in a subpar season of a show that should have been put out of our misery already.

Rome: Caesarian (AOL TV)

Oct 18th 2005 5:21PM Just to pick a nit... It's CaesariOn, as in the name of Caesar and Cleopatra's son, not CaesariAn, as in the section.
