Reaper: Leon (AOL TV)
Oct 31st 2007 1:03AM After last week, I was going to give it one more try, but I just can't do it. This show had so much potential but the Andi thing is just too much. It's as hackneyed and cliched a gimmick as there ever has been on television and it was so contrived how they set it up, with the devil flat out telling him that he can't tell her about it.
Ben and Sock are ok, but if he tells Andi, the world will end. The writers have decided that the oh-so-overdone romantic tension/lying humor is easier than Sam-Sock-Andi-Ben evil asskicking humor could be. Plot advancement and character development would be great in this series and the actors could handle it.
Unfortunately, it's going to be lame soul-of-the-week plus angsty ooh, it hurts so much to lie to my crush whining week after week until it gets canceled. What a shame.

Psych: 9 Lives (AOL TV)
Aug 5th 2006 5:23PM I really like this show, but where does it go from here? I can't see any way of turning the corner. In another review you suggested that maybe a few of the cops might figure it out, but that everybody else would continue to buy the psychic element.
I think now that they won't even go that far. I think the psychic element has to remain in play for everybody. I also have a hard time seeing how they can bring in more Corbin Bernsen. It's not like his character is going to all of a sudden approve whole heartedly of what his son is doing.
I'm afraid this show is going to be a bit of a one trick pony, though that doesn't mean it cant be successful considering shows like Monk and House.
Deadwood: A Rich Find (AOL TV)
Jul 17th 2006 11:31AM There is no gold in Liberia. It's a scam. Which is why Lou doesn't want Odell involved with Hearst. Hearst will eat him alive. And Hearst doesn't need the town, he can afford to bring in all new cornishmen or chinese to handle the mine. There's more than enough gold to justify the expense.

The Shield's sixth season is a go (AOL TV)
Jun 6th 2006 1:19AM You're exactly right Fred, if Shawn Ryan has been trying to sell another season of The Shield, all we know for sure is that we aren't going to be satisfied with the conclusion to the next five episodes. Although I really like The Shield, I was anticipating a series finale that concluded things with some reality (and considering Vic's behavior, that can only really end with him dead or in prison(which means dead, really)).

Law and Order: SVU - Influence (finale) (AOL TV)
May 17th 2006 6:53PM Clearly they were going for Tom Cruise, and I'm always ok with Cruise bashing. I have to agree the episode wasn't stellar, but not for the same reason. Imagine if instead of Derek Lord, it was say Kurt Cobain. Is it believable that teenagers would do drastic things if a figure like that told them so. I don't think too many people are getting off meds because Tom Cruise said so, but L&O is just extrapolating his behavior onto a more influential person. Imagine Derek Lord as a Kurt Cobain like figure (which seems to be what they were going for) and it all becomes very believable in my opinion.
What I didn't like was the little deus ex machina at the end where Lord's whole reason for hating psychiatrists is because of his own mental illness. It was too easy a way out. It would have been more compelling (and troubling) if he had maintained his position of self-righteousness and was acting simply out of conviction.
